Jewelry Appraisal- Appraise! Appraise, and Re-Appraise!

Jewelry Appraisal – Appraise! Appraise! and Re-Appraise!

Have your jewelry appraised! Theft is on the rise and if your jewelry hasn’t been recently appraised, it needs to be! Diamonds, gold and platinum have made huge gains over the last couple of years and if you haven’t had your jewelry updated with your insurance, you could be potentially loosing more than  your jewelry if stolen!

Have You Appraised Your Jewelry Lately?

Diamonds have increased in value almost 50% while platinum and silver have seen historical jumps in value as well.  Once you have had your appraisal, you need to call your insurance agent right way to update and validate the new value of your precious jewelry.  For example, if you paid $5,000 for a diamond necklace more than 5 years ago, it could cost you $10-$15,000 today if you had to replace it!  Of course non of us want to think about our homes being broken into, but it is a common occurrence and we can never be too careful.

Where can you find a reputable appraiser that you can trust?  One suggestion is to go through either THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF JEWELRY APPRAISERS or THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF APPRAISERS. These professionals are considered ethical and are required to be continuously educated.  Or you can go to your Boca Raton, FL own Raymond Lee Jewelers to meet with their own in-house expert and can help guide you to ensure protection and appraisal accuracy.

Also, please remember to contact your insurance agent to be aware of your insurance policies and making updates to policy to be ensure you are most protected.

Jewelry Education: HOW TO SELL OR BUY JEWELRY

“WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW

ABOUT JEWELRY

when I go to sell or buy it?”

Good question!

Florida Jewelry Store

POINTERS TO HELP YOU SELL OR BUY JEWELRY

Here’s a quick checklist of knowledge you should have before you go shopping for expensive jewelry.

  1. What is a Karat? It’s a good idea to know that gold karat number varies with weight, design, finishing and country of origin. Finishing can be done by hand or by machine, and this makes a difference. 24 karat gold, or pure gold, is too soft for molding into wearable jewelry, thus it needs to be mixed with other metals to strengthen it. The metal used to mix into the gold can change its color. WHAT TO KNOW if it’s less than 10kt (roughly 42% gold), than it can’t be sold as gold legally. You’ll hear these terms: “fill”, “electroplated” or “overlay” and that means it just has a thin gold coat on the piece of jewelry.
  2. What are the four C’s? Don’t expect to read this and have a working knowledge of the four C’s, but I can at least acquaint you with the language. WHAT TO KNOW – the four C’s are Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. If a jeweler can’t discuss these in great detail, they don’t know enough to be selling you jewelry, keep shopping.
  3. Be aware of chain stores who employ retail sales clerks AND have no actual jewelers on staff. WHAT TO KNOW  – Local jewelers will almost always have a more educated and knowledgeable staff.
  4. If you are going to purchase a really expensive piece of jewelry, USE A MAJOR CREDIT CARD AND HAVE IT APPRAISED immediately.

Now, you officially know more than most people about jewelry shopping! Enjoy ~

Rapaport Reports on Jewelry Industry Inflation and Diamond Trading Trending

Rapaport Reporting: Jewelry Industry Inflation

From: rapaportgroup  | Jun 23, 2011  | 95 views
RAPAPORT…
Jewelry inflation in the U.S. continues as the price of precious metals and diamonds climb. According to comScore, the popularity of online video and the ever-changing habits of viewers present an opportunity to advertise your brand.
A report from Rice Universityassociate professor of management, Utpal Dholakia, businesses can gain traction using “daily deals” websites, but there are many elements a brand must consider. Over the next few years, it is likely that daily deal sites will have to settle for lower shares of revenues from businesses compared with their current levels, and it will be harder and more expensive for them to find viable candidates to fill their pipelines of daily deals, according to Dholakia. In his third study – the most exhaustive study done to date on the daily deals industry – Dholakia found that there is very little difference between companies in the ever-expanding competition for consumer dollars, and it will be difficult for any one site to stand out from the others.”

June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair!!!

See Video HERE: 2011 JUNE HONG KONG JEWELLERY & GEM FAIR

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show wrapped up this week on an extremely positive note with a new record of 37,000 total attendees. The show attracted more than 2,800 exhibitors from 46 countries and regions — making it the largest for this show’s history. The number of buyers increased by 16 percent overall and the number of overseas buyers increased by 23 percent, led by Hong Kong’s three major export markets for fine jewelry — buyers from the U.S. rose 22 percent; buyers from France increased by 30 percent and buyers from Switzerland rose 6 percent. Buyers from emerging markets increased as well. Buyers from the Chinese mainland rose 33 percent, buyers from India rose 41 percent, Russian buyers in attendance increased 27 percent, Brazilian buyers rose 29 percent and there were 16 percent more buyers from Japan at this year’s show.

The Diamond Trading Company opened its 2012-contract period sightholder process this week. Those intending to register for this first round for sights in London, Botswana and Canada must submit audited financial information and a meet certain requirements regarding minimum revenue stream and rough utilization during each of the past three years. Applicants for sights in South Africa and Namibia have lower minimum requirements. All applicants must prove that they adhere to De Beers best practice principles and guarantee that they never traded diamonds outside of the Kimberley Process. The next phase of the sightholder application begins on April 18.  More information is available here.

Reporter Paul Brinkmann has been continuously publishing updates, following today’s

Scott Rothstein auction action. Once again, South Florida Business Report features Raymond Lee Jewelers.

Right on, Mr. Brinkmann!

Lee Josephson of Raymond Lee Jewelers in Boca Raton bids on a Patek Philippe yellow gold watch, but dropped out after a while.   “Lee Josephson of Raymond Lee Jewelers in Boca Raton bids on a Patek Philippe yellow gold watch, but dropped out after a while.”

Ultimately, the auction was a great experience and lots of excitement surrounding the event certainly stirred things up as lines began to form of South Florida jewelry professionals, collectors and victims of Scott Rothstein’s massive ponzi scheme looking for vengeance, in any form.

A variety of interpretations surrounding the auction have published since this morning. Certain sources are elaborating on the fact that so many pieces were paid above retail value for. Other views within the local press maintained a collectors perspective, pointing out that some items can become collectibles because of the stories tied to them… This, I tend to agree with, even if the story is not all that pretty.

Rothstein Auction Acquired Piaget Watch

Although Josephson won less bids than he hoped, he says there’s a serious lesson here.

“It shows how ridiculous someone is when money is no object. I’m blown away by how many watches Rothstein owned, he has more than most stores have in stock. I hope the people who got burned are reimbursed,” says Josephson

And…

Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein may be serving time, but his white gold Piaget watch sold for $77,500 on Wednesday.

Think that’s a lot? Around 1 p.m., a new auction high was set on a limited edition Concord watch for $100,000. There was also a white gold Franck Muller watch that fetched $47,500 and a Patek Phillippe watch that went for $61,000.

Raymond Lee Jewelers Arrival: Scott Rothstein Auction Preview

And Now… A Raymond Lee Jewelers ‘Rapid Reporting‘: Scott W. Rothstein Auction PREVIEW!

Raymond Lee Jewelers President,  Jeff Josephson, had been contacted by the Sun Sentinel shortly before this initial post, on behalf of Rick Levin & Associates, whose professional brokerage firm has been handling estate auctions for over 20 years.  Josephson was contacted by the request of Mr. Levin, who wisely refrained from venturing a guess as to what the estimated value of key pieces of jewelry included in the Scott Rothstein auction block might be.

The Sun Sentinel reporter covering this intriguing ponzi scheme plot discussed with Mr. Josephson a few key pieces of this high-profile auction. Of those pieces, a woman’s fancy yellow 12-carat diamond ring, platinum diamond bracelet with 41 emerald-cut diamond and a 10 carat heart-shaped diamond pendant necklace were all given a general assessment. The fancy yellow diamond ring was estimated to be worth nearly a quarter of a million dollars, comparative to the cost of a “couple of Ferraris.”

These items, amongst a vast collection of designer watches and luxurious cigar accessories will be up for auction come July 13, 2011.

“With the Scott W. Rothstein Auction scheduled to take place at the Broward County Convention Center on July 13, 2011,                      featuring key items that sparked the interest of Raymond Lee Jewelers immediately, we will have at least one representative                    present, eager to purchase the glistening remnants of Rothstein’s estate.”  June 10, 2011

Kat Von D ‘Too Much Drama’ Jesse James Tweets: Is The Inked Up Engagement Over?

Jesse James and Kat Von D 2011

Various reports have been published this month from People and Life & Style Magazine, with conflicting announcements about the engagement between Kat Von D and Jesse James. In fact, since we first reported the engagement back in February the media has announced several splits between the high profile couple.

Jesse James and Kat Von D are engaged, according to People.

The Engagement Ring: Kat Von D 2011

Almost five months after announcing their engagement, friends tell Life & Style magazine that James has told them the romance is over.

One insider tells the publication, “He says there’s too much drama for him.”

And the reports are supported by tweets James and his inked lady have posted on Twitter.com in the last week.

The roller coaster romance may be just fine, as both have reported separately that rumors of a split ‘couldn’t be further from the truth’ says Kat Von D and James lashes out at the trash talking tabloid rumors. The couple went on a mutually defensive strike Thursday evening, assuring the public that rumors of a split are nothing more than silly.

Now.. A bit about the JEWELRY!

Kat Von D Engagement Ring

The gorgeous vintage engagement ring that Kat has been sporting since early 2011 is a piece from Neil Lane’s archival collection. Lane was quoted earlier this year saying, “She [Kat] absolutely loved her ring.”

US Weekly reported that the ring is a 4 carat-plus platinum and diamond piece, featuring a unique filigree pattern with outer scroll designs. The center stone is surrounded by smaller diamonds, leading out to the vintage filigree pattern. The center stone is surrounded by smaller diamonds and accented by the outer delicate filigree pattern.

TOMTOM JEWELRY’s ‘Future ’70s’ Collection: Back In Time With An Architectural Twist

Another Refinery29.com Style Find: TomTom‘s new ’70s-inspired jewelry collection.

TomTom's 'Future '70s' Jewelry Collection

Future 70s Studded Rings by TomTom Jewelry

The various pieces of wearable art by TOMTOM JEWELRY has been a favorite among the press, celebrities, fashionistas and creative expression enthusiasts from the launch of the first collection in 2009. An established architect turned jewelry designer, Elena Coleman Howell utilized her design prowis to conquer graphic design and architecture integration. The result was TOMTOM JEWELRY, a successful modern twist to retro creations that is giving jewelry lines everywhere a run for their money.

While it is easy to spot the detailed precision in certain aspects of the pieces, the jewelry isn’t overly industrial or masculine. There is an element to every piece that brings a beautiful and delicate strength to geometric shapes and hammered metal textures. The unique qualities of the ‘Future ’70s’ Collection include shimmered accents to offset spike designs, the use of hand tie dyed suede to offset the bold bronze chains and hardware and thin golden chains to add a dash of delicate femininity to a totally rocking necklace that can be dressed up, down and manipulated with every chosen ensemble!

“Tribal Matters” ring. It’s available in seven different finishes, I suggest getting a variation of both gold and silver, and it’s just one of the stunning pieces Elena offers up on her website. $155.
