What’s that on your head?

It's a Stormy Kromer, of course.

This righteous cap is a celebratory find for the vintage look loving man! Another giveaway by the gents over there at urbangent.com is the classic early 19th century canvas visor cap, the ‘Stormy Kromer’. Named after the semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer, George “Stormy” Kromer, this cool cap is part of the American Made Giveaway. Two classic companies have come together to offer this lifetime warranty backed cap. Kudos to Duluth Pack and Stormy Kromer.

Duluth Pack. Founded in 1882 by Camille Poirer in Duluth, Minnesota. In the 1870s Camille started a small shoe store, then in 1882 filed for a patent on a new type of “packsack.” It was a canvas sack, that closed with a buckled flap, had shoulder straps and other new features. It was known as the Poirer Pack, and is now called the original Duluth Pack.

Stormy Kromer. George “Stormy” Kromer was a real guy – a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer. Not the kind of guy you’d expect to start a clothing company, in other words, but one who happened to create a cap that became known for long-comfort and the ability to stay snug, even in the fiercest winds.

One day George “Stormy” Kromer asked his wife Ida, who was a naturally talented seamstress to fashion him a modified version of his baseball cap that would help to keep him warm when working on the railroads in cold weather. It was in 1903 that Ida created the first all cloth, six panel fitting hat that would keep George warm on the chilliest of nights. The comfortable fit and stay-put element of the modified baseball cap was such a hit with other railroad workers that Ida had to hire a few employees to keep up manufacturing the head warming sensations. ‘Stormy Kromer‘ was born!

Kat Von D ‘Too Much Drama’ Jesse James Tweets: Is The Inked Up Engagement Over?

Jesse James and Kat Von D 2011

Various reports have been published this month from People and Life & Style Magazine, with conflicting announcements about the engagement between Kat Von D and Jesse James. In fact, since we first reported the engagement back in February the media has announced several splits between the high profile couple.

Jesse James and Kat Von D are engaged, according to People.

The Engagement Ring: Kat Von D 2011

Almost five months after announcing their engagement, friends tell Life & Style magazine that James has told them the romance is over.

One insider tells the publication, “He says there’s too much drama for him.”

And the reports are supported by tweets James and his inked lady have posted on Twitter.com in the last week.

The roller coaster romance may be just fine, as both have reported separately that rumors of a split ‘couldn’t be further from the truth’ says Kat Von D and James lashes out at the trash talking tabloid rumors. The couple went on a mutually defensive strike Thursday evening, assuring the public that rumors of a split are nothing more than silly.

Now.. A bit about the JEWELRY!

Kat Von D Engagement Ring

The gorgeous vintage engagement ring that Kat has been sporting since early 2011 is a piece from Neil Lane’s archival collection. Lane was quoted earlier this year saying, “She [Kat] absolutely loved her ring.”

US Weekly reported that the ring is a 4 carat-plus platinum and diamond piece, featuring a unique filigree pattern with outer scroll designs. The center stone is surrounded by smaller diamonds, leading out to the vintage filigree pattern. Breakfast with Boca Chamber and Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Show Highlights

Today is shaping up to be quite eventful!  This morning Richard Resnik and myself attended our first Boca Chamber Breakfast, sponsored by JM Lexus at the Country Club at Boca Raton.  We spent a few hours networking, and I received a free super-charged Twitter tutorial by Social Media Guru Staci Garcia. Thanks again, doll face!

Armed with a general understand of hash-tagging and mentions, tweet-reach algorithms and a strong determination, I can now finally proclaim that I understand Twitter. That actually is an accomplishment worthy of notation, as I was always intimidated by that little blue bird.

The Key Speakers from JM Lexus discussed the importance of Social Media for Business, informing the attending Members of how much value and positive impact can be obtained through Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and other Social Media Services. To steal a phrase from their presentation, Social Media in Business is “the fad that will never fade.” I spoke with a lovely gal who was photographing the Member Breakfast, also a writer, currently working in the Communications Department at the Boca Chamber, and we met with many other friendly local professionals.

It was a wonderful morning!

The whole wireless n to wireless g switch has me just a bit befuddled, and it is therefore time to take a quick little break from technology.

Let’s discuss the fantastic boots and couture designs that were revealed on the Milan Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Show runways!

From Alexander McQueen‘s feathered ivory boots to Dolce & Gabbana‘s consistent pairing of tall socks with flat shoes, there were certainly some fashion surprises that I can’t imagine anyone was expecting.

Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2011

Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2011

This lavender fashion fairy tale was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, and is in my all-time top five favorite catwalk creations list. The monochromatic ensembles of Dolce & Gabbana were certainly star spangled, with a repeating theme of tall socks worn with shiny textured flat shoes. To the naked ear, it may sound as if the whole socks with shoes attempt would ultimately fail at being appealing, despite how talented the designer may be. I may have thought the same, had I not seen this image… (Which, by the way, was taken as David Bowie‘s ‘Modern Love‘ provided the musical score! LOVE David Bowie!)

Dolce & Gabbana

The motorcycle jacket. This item has been at the very top of my wishlist since Fashion Week in New York 2010, where I fell head over heels for the Chanel motorcycle boots and black leather jacket. If I close my eyes, I can see those two toned boots paired with the slim fitting biker-chic jacket ever so clearly. While I adore Chanel, and who wouldn’t… my wallet isn’t exactly a fan. This is why the following release via the Vogue Blog made my day extra delightful!

The biker jacket is a classic, and at the Karen Millen press day today we found the perfect one for autumn. A great shape in hard-wearing leather (affordable too), it will hit the stores in September.12 May, 2011

Paris Fashion Week – Chanel Fall Winter 2011

Chanel Fall Winter 2011

This Fashion Re-Cap wouldn’t be complete if the fantastic creations of Philipp Plein Spring Summer 2011 clothing and accessory designs were not mentioned. Quickly becoming my favorite Designer, Plein had exclusively designed furniture prior to 2004, when he embarked on his first street-fashion venture.

Fun Fact? In 2009, Mattel worked with Philipp Plein to design a special limited-edition Barbie doll to commemorate  50 years of the Barbie enterprise.  Philipp Plein-Barbie was presented to the public on February 4, 2009 at the Toy Fair in Nuremberg.

There are so many strong and opposing perspectives when viewing the world of fashion, almost as if personal opinions are heightened in particularity and detailed attention. I’m sure it has something to do with how personal many fashion enthusiasts consider their relationships with clothing to be. That sounds absurd, perhaps, but it actually is a rational and logical observation.

Everyone makes a decision when presented with 31 flavors of ice cream, out of which they must choose only one. Right? Some of us like cookie dough in our ice cream, peanut butter (righteous!), chocolate chips, even cherries and marshmallows show up in the most popular flavors. However, no matter how similar two people may be to one another, they will most often choose different flavors of ice cream.

I’m always the girl that gets vanilla ice cream, and while sometimes the sweet surprises in other flavors look scrumdidly-umptious, I always remain content with my classic choice. Am I right for always choosing vanilla? Can someone be held at fault for a personal preference? Is that a trick question?

With fashion, our personal preferences are ignited with a creative passion that far exceeds ice cream. We become protective of our perceptions, our preferences, as if there is one right answer, when there truly is no correct or incorrect where opinions are concerned. While I may rave about the incredible fashions of Philipp Plein, being nothing less than impressed by every ensemble showcased, I’m sure that a plethora of completely opposing opinions wouldn’t be hard to find.

That said, allow me to finally make the disclaimer I’ve been building up to…

The thoughts and opinions expressed within the Raymond Lee Jewelers Blog come from a personal point of view, and do not represent Raymond Lee Jewelers or any of the Jewelry and Fashion Designers mentioned.

Alex’s Proclamation of Love for Ariella Collection of Rings 2011

daydreams of a fashion muse

These modern styled, blended lines of geometric and sweeping variations ring creations are part of the Ariella Collection, available at Nordstrom (and various other less expensive online bargain options, like  http://www.polyvore.com and http://ringoblog.com)

A lovely acquaintance of mine, through the wonderful world of fashion and jewelry blogging, Ambyr (Twitter: @ambyrhanks) exhibited the complete cuteness of these rings in a recent entry.

With a two finger ring from the Ariella Collection that featured bright aquamarine, Ambyr added a bit of gold with two thin bangles and sported a sweeping, fun in the spring-time dress. Bright colors. Bright smile. Bright Gems. Great Style! Rock on, Ambyr!

Our Jeweler Featured in the Sun-Sentinel!- Florida Diamond

Florida Jewlery

Richard Resnick

Raymond Lee Jewelers has had a run of employees being featured in local Florida newspapers this year! We have always recognized the extraordinary talent and skill our employees possess; we are extremely proud that the rest of the world is finally starting to take notice.  In early February our amazing watchmaker, Igor Polotsky had a piece written about him in the Orlando Sentinel and this week our leading gemologist, Richard Resnick, was featured in the Sun-Senintel.

The original article was in Wednesday’s paper, February 23rd and was entitled Local Jeweler Predicts Oscar Red Carpet Will Be Ballerinas and Bombshells. In it Richard lends his expansive knowledge on the jewelry industry to comment and rate Hollywood’s top actress’ taste in jewelry at this year’s Oscars. Natalie Portman was given four out of four diamonds for her exquisite taste in simple yet elegant jewelry. Heidi Klum on the other hand received zero diamonds for substituting diamond and gold for an dismaying array of African styled wooden bangles.  “The ears took center stage as hair was swept off the neck in a simple bun or chignon showcasing a gorgeous diamond stud, creating a ‘ballerina’ effect, a la Natalie Portman,” Richard said, summing up the jewelry trends found on the red carpet. Florida Diamond.

Richard Resnick has been with Raymond Lee Jewelers for many years and in that time has garnered a reputation for excellence. As our leading gemologist Richard is responsible for evaluating all precious stones that come into our store and doing appraisals needed for insurance.  His keen eye ensures that only the highest quality diamonds and other precious gems make their way into our showroom. You can follow Richard on Twitter at jewelryguruus. If you need a certain item evaluated or appraised come into our store make Richard your number one choice.
