One last modern man’s vintage must have….

The Skinny Tie.

Fleur-De-Lis Skinny Tie Circa 1940s

"A great vintage man's tie circa late 1940's. The design has a great pattern with a bit of funk. The background is a dark red, the fleur-de-lis design is ivory, gray and black. The material has an interesting texture and pattern of diamonds in the weave as well as a slight sheen. The photos were taken both with a flash and natural light-the tie appears more red with the flash, the darker photos best show the overall color and the flash ones show the weave & texture. Condition is excellent, very clean and without wear, damage or stains. Measures 50" long and 3.25" at the widest. A wonderful vintage tie in amazing near mint condition."

Vintage Fashion is here to stay, gentlemen. And it's looking better now than even the first time around. Have some fun with these vintage accents in
2012!

Reporter Paul Brinkmann has been continuously publishing updates, following today’s

Scott Rothstein auction action. Once again, South Florida Business Report features Raymond Lee Jewelers.

Right on, Mr. Brinkmann!

Lee Josephson of Raymond Lee Jewelers in Boca Raton bids on a Patek Philippe yellow gold watch, but dropped out after a while.   “Lee Josephson of Raymond Lee Jewelers in Boca Raton bids on a Patek Philippe yellow gold watch, but dropped out after a while.”

Ultimately, the auction was a great experience and lots of excitement surrounding the event certainly stirred things up as lines began to form of South Florida jewelry professionals, collectors and victims of Scott Rothstein’s massive ponzi scheme looking for vengeance, in any form.

A variety of interpretations surrounding the auction have published since this morning. Certain sources are elaborating on the fact that so many pieces were paid above retail value for. Other views within the local press maintained a collectors perspective, pointing out that some items can become collectibles because of the stories tied to them… This, I tend to agree with, even if the story is not all that pretty.

Rothstein Auction Acquired Piaget Watch

Although Josephson won less bids than he hoped, he says there’s a serious lesson here.

“It shows how ridiculous someone is when money is no object. I’m blown away by how many watches Rothstein owned, he has more than most stores have in stock. I hope the people who got burned are reimbursed,” says Josephson

Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein may be serving time, but his white gold Piaget watch sold for $77,500 on Wednesday.

Think that’s a lot? Around 1 p.m., a new auction high was set on a limited edition Concord watch for $100,000. There was also a white gold Franck Muller watch that fetched $47,500 and a Patek Phillippe watch that went for $61,000.

Please, Meet This Valiant Vintage Omega Seamaster

Vintage Omega Seamaster Wristwatch for $595!

Given the homage we are currently paying in men’s wristwatch trends to classic, vintage style wristwatches with narrower bracelets and a large classic case, this valiantly designed, nostalgic timepiece had to be mentioned and shown to you here. If you’re still in need of that fifth and final Summer Essential, boys… Consider this awesome Omega wristwtch, available for only $595 at the Raymond Lee Jewelers eBay Store.

Good Morning, All!  While browsing our eBay store this morning, I came across this fantastic vintage watch by Omega. The model is Seamaster, with a stainless steel case and black leather bracelet. A bit of history about Omega’s Seamaster Series:

At the time the Seamaster was introduced in 1948, standard watches were extremely susceptible to water damage from even a dip in a sink or tub. The Seamaster was created as a line of standard dress-style watches which were ‘waterproof’ (as they called them then) suitable for swimming and other light water activities. Their water resistance then is about comparable to a 10 to 30 meter rating today. The now common diver’s watch style was unknown at that time.

Rolex Watches: Time to Invest

Exquisite Timepieces.. Ahead of Their Time

Rolex watches have been an icon of ingenuity, precision and craftsmanship since the early 1900’s. It was over a hundred years ago that Rolex wristwatches designated the ultimate compass of quality and design in timepieces. Over a century of accomplishment and innovation by Rolex watch designs include chronometer certification, self-winding mechanisms, automatic time calibration and quartz movement. A name synonymous with luxury and precision, Rolex is the largest single luxury watch brand and among the 100 most valuable global brands.

Rolex Deep Sea

Founded in 1905, “Wilsdorf and Davis” began manufacturing and distributing wristwatches to jewelers in surrounding areas of London. Hans Wilsdorf and brother-in-law, Alfred Davis officially changed the trademark to “Rolex” in 1908 and opened an office in Switzerland. Rolex received the first ever Official Chronometer Certification to be awarded to a wristwatch just two years later. Becoming the first in 1910, Rolex remains the record holder today for most certified chronometer movements in wristwatches.

Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis continued breaking records with the exceptional precision of Rolex wristwatches, awarded with a Class “A” precision certificate in 1914 from The Kew Observatory in Great Britain. The flawless designs of remarkable engineering are seen as clearly today as they had been recognized on those infamous early decades of the 20th century. Rolex wristwatches are certainly standing the test of time, with continued innovation and impeccable quality.

A previously-owned Rolex watch has been revered and suggested as one of the wisest investment choices in both England and America. With retail prices for brand new models rising, there has been an increased popularity and availability of previously-owned Rolex watches. Rolex watches, particularly GMT-Master, Daytona and Submariner models have proven to maintain, and often rise in value over time.

Rolex Wristwatch

As consumers, we may never see a more fitting time to invest in a classic timepiece by Rolex. With jewelry retailers offering previously-owned Rolex watches with CW21 certification at remarkably affordable rates, it is undoubtedly time (no pun intended) to invest in a previously-owned luxury Rolex watch. The time to invest in a Rolex is at an all time high for luxury previously owned models. Raymond Lee Jewelers prides itself in being an industry leader in luxury pre-owned watches.  Located in the heart of Boca Raton, Florida, Raymond Lee Jewelers can offer the best value high end watches on the web.

Whether purchased for a loved one (this includes you), or for future use as a family keepsake, there has never been a better time to invest in a previously-owned Rolex wristwatch. As the ultimate emblem of innovation, accomplishment and cultural heritage, a previously-owned Rolex watch is not only a wise investment, but a sentimental and symbolic one as well.

Bigger is Not Always Better!- Watch Sell

Watch Sell

Vintage Patek Philippe

Over the last decade there has been a large shift in the luxury watch market towards timepieces with big and over sized cases. Many luxury brands such as Panerai, Ulysse Nardin, Breitling and Omega have released collections with cases that measured 44mm diameter or larger. Even Rolex who has a history of making mid sized watches embraced the trend; in 2007 they released the Yacht-Master II with a case that measured 44mm. The Yacht-Master II like many large watches has a thick case that really make it’s presence known and can even make the biggest wrist look small. These large sports watches are great attention getter and suit those who don’t mind having their watch get all the limelight.

Now during the past couple of years there has been a steadily growing group of consumers who are pushing for a return to form. This growing segment of  the market is purchasing timepieces that mirror the trends of the past, when watches rarely exceeded 37mm. The timepieces of the 50’s and 60’s traded flash for a more subdued beauty; these watches were made to compliment an outfit rather than outshine it. A great example of a classically created watch is the Patek Philippe Calatrava with a 37mm case, a stark, cream colored dial and only a small second sub dial. These type of watches tend to be attached to beautiful brown/black crocodile straps or had a small stainless steel bands. This new trend is so strong that consumers who can’t find a more modern interpretation of the classic wristwatch are actually going out and buying vintage pieces. We here at Raymond Lee Jewelers have a wide verity of vintage timepieces at amazing prices. Watch Sell.

Whether you prefer a large or a midsized watch, your watch collection in all honesty should have one of each. I know my last statement will sound like heresy to consumers who are steadfast in their adhere to a certain watch size but it is true. Watches are more than just a reliable way to tell time; they are silent and unique way of expressing something about ourselves to the world. Both watches have their time and place for example a large watch should be worn with a more casual outfit to spice it up. If you are dressing for a date or important social event, large wristwatches are a great option as they tend to attract attention and stands you out from the crowd. A midsized watch on the other hand should be worn at the office especially if you are wearing a suit. These watches lay low on the wrist and tend to only peek from underneath a dress shirt; giving those you work with a brief glimpse of luxury and often leave your coworkers wondering about whats on your wrist. These watches were created to enhance a great suit or tux not overpower it. If you are looking for a watch that is in-between perhaps purchasing a midsized watch that has a rose gold case, this is a great compromise as it catches a lot of attention but still radiates a timeless presence.

Rolex Watches Same As Currency- Watch Sell

watch sell

Watch Sell

In today’s economy some believe it is better to have your money in appreciating assets that you can touch and feel rather than in the market or in cash. Obviously you have to understand the market for this to work for you. Weathly watch collectors actually make money with their watch collection! Companies such as Rolex and Patek Philippe frequently discontinued models, this creates a demand. Another thing they do to create hype is not create enough of any of their popular watches to keep up with the demand. The retails generally increase by 10 percent every year, making the preowned models increase in value as well.  It’s a lot easier than it used to be to figure out the market value of certain makes and models. Checking Ebay current listing and completed listing is one good way. Checking your local jewelers to see what they are asking for new and used watches is another.  A great way to see if the watch brand you are planning on investing in has good residual value is to see if the authorized dealers will discount that brand. If you walk into the authorized dealer and negotiate a discount on a new watch of 40% off retail chances are you should stay away from that brand. Watch sell. Now, if the model you want is sold out chances are this is the one to go with if you can find it. One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes a company that does not have great resale will create one model that sells great. This is usually very temporary, which means that you buy it when it super hot and when your tired of it so is everyone else. Which kills resale.

Wild Watch of the Week Award!- watch sell

Breitling Superavenger

As a Gemologist I ordinarily do not write about watches but sometimes something so insane comes into our store that I cant help but talk about it.  What I am talking about is the Super Avenger (model #
A13370)  from Breitling.   Breitling is known for watches that make a statement and this one is no exception.  In fact if Super Avengers were a group of people this particular version would be the leader of the pack.-watch sell

What makes this model so special is that it has been decked out to the point at which there is no mistaking it for anything but amazing.  First it has been treated with a PVD coating to make it pitch black.  Then it has been completely encrusted in black diamonds all around the case and bracelet.  To top it off the bezel also has larger black diamonds channel set all around the dial.  The total carat weight is 40ctw.  This piece is suited for the guy who has everything.  Someone who lives life and lives it well.  If you party like a rockstar and have an extreme sense of style then this watch is for you.  Feel free to call me, Richard, your South Florida Jewelry Guru, if you have any questions or you want me to send this bad boy out to you right away.

James Bond Watches Part 2: Omega- Watch Sell

Watch Sell

Watch Sell

In the early 1990’s Pierce Brosnan was announced as the new James Bond for the next set of films. The Bond Franchise had been on a six year hiatus and many believed that the series had become an icon of the past. In 1995 GoldenEye was released to great success, Brosnan revitalized the character and demonstrated that Bond could still be relevant even after the fall of the Soviet Union. The new series of films featured the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver Quartz model 2541.80, an elegant full size watch with a  blue dial, blue bezel on a stainless steel bracelet.

In Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), 007 switched to the automatic chronometer version, model 2531.80. In The World Is Not Enough (1999), he again is wearing the model 2531.80. The model of choice continues with the 2531.80 in Die Another Day (2002). These are the only two models that Bond wears in the four films. Pierce Brosnan had a separate contract deal with Omega in which he promoted different models of Omega watches that were not featured in the Bond films.

The departure from Rolex to Omega was not an easy decision. James Bond had become synonymous with the Rolex Submariner and many fans balked at the mere thought of Bond wearing any other brand. The producers of GoldenEye wanted to update Bond’s style and give him a more “Euro” look. Rolex of the past was known for its technical superiority but Rolex of today is known more for its brand recognition. The producers felt Bond would choose a watch that had style but would not attract extra attention or make a statement like the Rolex does currently. Thus the Omega Seamaster was chosen.

Financial reasons also played a part in the decision to change watch sell brands. Rolex is well known for not participating in high-profile co-promotions, instead relying on its superior quality to market the brand. Product marketing deals has become a large part of modern films and Omega was willing to participate and provided products to be involved in co-marketing arrangements.

Stay tuned for part 3.

The Rolex Day-Date Or Is It President?- Collateral Loan

Collateral Loan

Collateral Loan

The Rolex Day-Date is one of the most popular watches in Rolex’s history. Popularized by both politicians and movie stars, the Day-Date has become a symbol of wealth and power. Now many of you may know about this watch but you may not know what to call it. President, Day-Date or Presidential?

The real name for this model is Day-Date and it was released in 1956 as a niche model. Rolex was suffering a drop in sales and the Day-Date was quietly released, not many expected it to put an end to stagnant sales. Fortunately for Rolex the Day-Date’s popularity exploded and sales rose significantly. The early models due to the complexity of the watch, with its automatic movement, additional day and date discs was a very large and had a bulbous case back. This differs quite dramatically from the slim profile we have become accustomed to today.

The nickname, President, did not come into existence until later when Rolex changed the bracelet of the Day-Date to a gold-linked bracelet with a concealed clasp the is called “the President wristband.” Rolex perhaps trying to expand recognition for this watch in the U.S, capitalized on the wristbands name and gave one to then President Dwight Eisenhower. Rolex succeeded perhaps a bit too well because here in the United States the nickname the President (Presidential would gain popularity as well) overtook its actual name. In Europe and abroad, asking for a Rolex President will get you quizzical stares since the Day-Dates’ nickname never grew as popular as it did here. Collateral Loan.

The Day-Date or President has undergone only slight changed over the years. In 1972 a hack feature was introduced which allowed the second hand to be stopped instantly. Also around this time the “Quickset” feature was introduced, this allowed the wearer to change the date by pulling the button out half way and turning it. A great improvement over the old method where the crown would have to be turned round and round in order to manipulate the date.  Besides these internal changes the President is still holds the classic beauty that originally made it a hit among consumers.
