Future 70s Studded Rings by TomTom Jewelry

The various pieces of wearable art by TOMTOM JEWELRY has been a favorite among the press, celebrities, fashionistas and creative expression enthusiasts from the launch of the first collection in 2009. An established architect turned jewelry designer, Elena Coleman Howell utilized her design prowis to conquer graphic design and architecture integration. The result was TOMTOM JEWELRY, a successful modern twist to retro creations that is giving jewelry lines everywhere a run for their money.

While it is easy to spot the detailed precision in certain aspects of the pieces, the jewelry isn’t overly industrial or masculine. There is an element to every piece that brings a beautiful and delicate strength to geometric shapes and hammered metal textures. The unique qualities of the ‘Future ’70s’ Collection include shimmered accents to offset spike designs, the use of hand tie dyed suede to offset the bold bronze chains and hardware and thin golden chains to add a dash of delicate femininity to a totally rocking necklace that can be dressed up, down and manipulated with every chosen ensemble!

“Tribal Matters” ring. It’s available in seven different finishes, I suggest getting a variation of both gold and silver, and it’s just one of the stunning pieces Elena offers up on her website. $155.

Turq and Marigold

Turq and MarigoldTurquoise, Marigold and Coral.. Welcome the Colors of Summer 2011

These two happy summer colors that will be embraced by the sun’s beaming rays throughout these heated next few months. The marigold trend is one that I would like to proudly proclaim to have been ahead of the curve on. Unfortunately, that’s not exactly true. I’ve always been a sucker for rich yellows, all shades of yellow actually.

So, while I was simply just promoting my favorite color, I have unknowingly been sporting this ‘trend of summer 2011’ since summer of 2008, and I’m delighted to keep the party going. There’s something uplifting about having yellow on. Whether it’s on your nails, eyelids, fitted tank top or super cute sandals, this eternally optimistic color was made for the sunlit days of summer!

InStyle: Marigold ‘A playful yellow that demands attention, this buttery shade adds a ward glow to any wardrobe’

This bold color is a little challenging to work with at first. You want to avoid looking like a bumble bee, so while black is usually the color that goes with everything, the rule does not apply in this particular combination. Gold accessories will match the warm hue of marigold. For palette considerations, try using white as an off-set color, which brings an innocence to the outfit.

Instead of black, try heather grey or neutral colors to create an edgy vibe while avoiding the bumble bee blunder. Other fun colors to play with in combination with this bold yellow include olive, royal blue, garnet and purple. The same rule applies for eye make-up. Avoid black eye liner or shadow. Using browns that stay on the subtle side will help to brighten your eyes instead of making them look too heavy.

In the sample ensembles I created on one of my new favorite sites, Polyvore (above), I fell for the intriguing appeal of the black schoolgirl cardigan with the high-waisted shorts from Armani Exchange. Yes, I broke the no bumble bee rule, sort of. However, with the white striping of the cardigan and the button accents on the shorts, there’s enough couture presence to earn a hall pass.

Turquoise Makes Its Summertime Comeback

By Christene Barberich

The Glam Slam! France collection consists of White Shatter matched up with a silver sparkle lacquer called Spark de Triomphe and Red Shatter paired with a shimmery pink called Rally Pretty Pink, while the Blue, Navy, and Turquoise Shatters add a little rock to the nautical look’s typically preppy boat.

OPI Glam Slam! France nail polish sets, $14.95 each, and Blue, Navy, and Turquoise Shatters, $8.50 each, all available in May. Visit OPI.com for more information.

Turquoise isn’t only taking over eBay searches and nail polish shatters… It will be seen in bathing suits, cover ups, sandals and beach bags everywhere this summer. Turquoise is a staple of summer, and as the heightened interest of the color arrives, the fashions of jewelry and clothing to meet the demands rise steadily in summer-ready supply.

There are lots of fun new designs, playful and light. Perfect summer accessories are just within reach. It’s time to get excited about this copper aluminum phosphate, and snag yourself a staple piece turquoise jewelry!

With the collage of pieces in the turquoise section, you’ll see that incorporating a little bit of coral into outfits that focus on turquoise is absolutely possible. Just be sure that the coral stays an accent color, and doesn’t begin to compete with the turquoise for attention. Lots of fun is to be had with turquoise, as the color spans from hues of green to grey to blue and back again. This also makes ‘matching’ somewhat impossible for different pieces, so don’t be overly specific on how close the shades need to be to one another. Break up the outfit with a white cami or multi-colored bangles in order to avoid looking like a walking bubble of blue.

Have yourselves a fantastic weekend!!!

Alexandra
