What Does the High Price of Gold Mean?

Over the past few days, the price of gold has skyrocketed, reaching record highs and even briefly surpassing platinum prices. As the uncertain future of the US economy and European markets make traders nervous, gold continues to seem like a sure bet – making it even more valuable. But what does the higher price of gold actually mean?

Criminals have noticed that Gold is more expensive too.

A wave of gold-related robberies and thefts have been reported across the globe. Matthew Phillips of Freakonomics blog reports on L.A.’s rash of street-robberies and smash-n-grabs, as well as robberies and street muggings in Iraq and Guyana. Retailers and the general public should be extra vigilant while gold prices soar.

Gold will continue to be a desirable addition to investor portfolios.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “…a selloff in gold is unlikely in the current economic environment as investors will be hard put to find an alternative asset that can protect their wealth as well as gold,” said George Gero, a vice president with RBC Capital Markets Global Futures.

Traders will be affected by the price of gold in the markets.

For the second time this year, The Shanghai Gold Exchange raised the margin requirements on gold futures contracts by 1%, making investors pay more up front to buy gold.

Big Prices mean Big Business for Jewelers who buy gold.

Gold Briefly Surpasses Platinum In Price on Tuesday

Gold Key, weighing one kilogram is used to acc...

Will Gold Surpass Platinum?

For a little while on Tuesday of this week, gold was more valuable than platinum! That’s right!

Typically you might find that platinum is roughly twice the price of gold. That’s why platinum members of any group or credit card get more perks, and that’s why recording artist always strive to have their recordings go platinum, not gold.

We can thank the economy and its pending threat to dip again for this, as investors have been hesitant to invest in many things, they have turned to gold and gold has responded like a champ. I didn’t think I’d ever write this sentence, “Gold is 1,782.50 an ounce”. But I did, and I may not be done writing new things yet!

Several industry experts have chimed in on the phenomenon. Lee Josephson, VP of Raymond Lee Jewelers in Boca Raton isn’t one that believes this will affect the retail sales of jewelry,  however. “There is still a certain allure to buying platinum,” Mr. Josephson said. “So, it’s not the price that affects consumers as much. There is still the perception that platinum is more prestigious.” And we agree.

Byron King, senior analyst of Agora Financial in Baltimore says, “When you travel to the Middle East, every town and mall of any significance has a ‘gold souk,’ where the merchants gather to buy and sell gold items. I’ve never seen a ‘platinum souk,'”

Some precious metals dealers, such as James DiGeorgia, believe that since platinum mainly serves as an industrial metal, it could eventually take a second seat to gold in light of the economic situations on a global scale.

Rapid Reporting: Gold Bullion made a bad batch! Jamie Campany

Gold Bullion made a bad batch!

In a world of economic turmoil, downgraded status, and the U.S. dollar sinking faster than the Titanic, many of us are scrambling to find a secure, safe and reliable means of investing our monies.  Precious metals, such as gold bullion gives us that security we are all craving.  However, here is a “BUYER BEWARE” scam that is sweeping the nation.  There are “brokers” running around and targeting our senior citizens to quickly invest their savings into these precious metals, but only taking the money, not bringing back the metals they “invested”.  As with anytime you are looking to invest, due diligence is required to fully investigate any and all companies!

Gold - Bullion Bars

In Florida, these precious metal exchange stores were going up faster than Starbucks, Walgreens and medicial dispensaries combined!  Most recently, Gold Bullion Exchange founder, Jamie Campany, plead guilty to fraud.

He was one of many who took client’s money with no intent to purchase the precious metals he promised.  Ok, that’s the bad news.  Good news, is now this under regulated commodity is now over-sought by US Commodity Futures Commission.  If the trade of monies to bullion isn’t finalized (metal being delivered to the original buyer) within 28 days, that is a violation of the new law and the federal government prosecute.Lee Josephson, of Raymond Lee Jewlers suggests, “It is always a good time to buy precious metals. As the currency continues to get weaker precious metals continue to rise.” Raymond Lee Jewelers buys Bullion and Gold.

TomTom's 'Future '70s' Jewelry Collection

Future 70s Studded Rings by TomTom Jewelry

The various pieces of wearable art by TOMTOM JEWELRY has been a favorite among the press, celebrities, fashionistas and creative expression enthusiasts from the launch of the first collection in 2009. An established architect turned jewelry designer, Elena Coleman Howell utilized her design prowis to conquer graphic design and architecture integration. The result was TOMTOM JEWELRY, a successful modern twist to retro creations that is giving jewelry lines everywhere a run for their money.

While it is easy to spot the detailed precision in certain aspects of the pieces, the jewelry isn’t overly industrial or masculine. There is an element to every piece that brings a beautiful and delicate strength to geometric shapes and hammered metal textures. The unique qualities of the ‘Future ’70s’ Collection include shimmered accents to offset spike designs, the use of hand tie dyed suede to offset the bold bronze chains and hardware and thin golden chains to add a dash of delicate femininity to a totally rocking necklace that can be dressed up, down and manipulated with every chosen ensemble!

“Tribal Matters” ring. It’s available in seven different finishes, I suggest getting a variation of both gold and silver, and it’s just one of the stunning pieces Elena offers up on her website. $155.

Gold Rises Above $1,500 an Ounce for the First Time Ever

Oil Prices, if you haven’t noticed, are skyrocketing to all new highs across the Country. The value of the USD has been steadily decreasing over a span of fifteen consecutive months, reaching a record-breaking low on Wednesday.

Daily Markets analyst Michael Snyder explains that as a result of the progressive weakening of the US Dollar, the appeal of Gold and Silver is boosted.  There are also high demands for gold from emerging economies like China and India, which help to fuel the rise in gold’s value.

Spot gold traded at $1,505.21 an ounce and was bid at $1,505.16 an ounce at 5:42 a.m. ET, against $1,493.90 late in New York on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

Jersey Shore’s Snooki Has A New Jewelry Line- Buy Sell Jewelry

The latest celebrity (I use that term very loosely)  to enter the jewelry market is Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, who just released her own line on January 1st. Apparently there is no requirement for actual talent to create your own jewelry line but I digress… Snooki’s line will be available on Diamondshark.com.

Diamondshark.com is a popular online store that offers great deals on lower end diamond, gold, platinum and silver jewelry. A new item is posted at midnight and is available for only 24 hours at a low price. Normally the item sells out before the 24 hour period ends. Buy Sell Jewelry.

Snooki will be releasing a different piece every month of the year and is currently working on a special piece for Valentine’s day. The first piece released this month was a 1 ct. lab-created pink sapphire Snooki Party Ball 2011 Limited Edition Pendant retailing for $49,  2,011 pendants have been produced. The line will eventually include rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The prices will typically range between $25-$50.
