Icon Award Winner Neil Diamond Performs to a Standing Ovation at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, Plus Fashion Highlights!

2011 Billboard Music Awards

With spirited, audience singalong versions of “Sweet Caroline” and a choir-assisted “America,” Neil Diamond closed the 2011 Billboard Music Awards Sunday night (May 22) by accepting his 2011 Billboard Icon Award.

Seeming just as moved by but more coherent than his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in March, a leather-jacketed Diamond hushed the standing ovation from crowd at Las VegasMGM Grand Arena by saying, “I’m gonna get spoiled. Don’t do that.” Diamond also joked, “I would’ve settled for a Top 10 record; you didn’t have to do the whole award thing. I love it. I don’t know exactly what it means to be an icon, but I always wanted to be one. Now I guess I am…I’m gonna Google it right after the show and find out exactly how an icon is supposed to handle himself. But this is absolutely wonderful…What can I say? It’s too much.” -Source:

A humble and gracious Neil Diamond thanked his Wife, Children, Supporters and Record Label, Columbia. The 2011 Billboard Icon Award was presented to Neil by   “Glee” star Matthew Morrison. The Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand grew loud with applause on Sunday to a nearly blushing Diamond, who was receiving a standing ovation from one of the Billboard’s Big Winner,  Justin Beiber and Girlfriend, Selena Gomez .

Diamond performed his legendary hits “Sweet Caroline” and “America,” backed by a full gospel choir on the second song.

Reinforcing his staying power, Diamond scored his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 — after 45 prior chart visits — just three years ago, when “Home Before Dark” opened atop the chart in 2008. Diamond is the only artist to score a top 20 hit in each decade since Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart launched in 1961, with his first hit, “Sweet Caroline,” in 1969. With 17 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, he ranks among the top four male singers with the most such hit collections, and is one of just four men to scale the Billboard 200’s top 10 in each decade since the 1960’s. Among men in the chart’s five-decade history, Diamond has the 10th most Billboard Hot 100 hits, with 53.  -Source:

Congratulations, Neil! I still wear the “I’m a Diamond Girl” tee shirt from your late 90’s tour. Thank you for providing so many incredible hits, for so many years! My Mother has been smitten over you since somewhere around 1976, and will I’m sure always remain so. Can’t say I blame her… There’s just something about you, Neil Diamond. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who has somehow managed to maintain his style, career and family with gratitude and humility… I’ll steal your words, Neil Diamond. To you, I sing.. “You’ve got the way to groove me!”

“Ladies… Start your engines!”

Fashion Notation:

Forget spring colors — it was all about black at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.

Plenty of stars rocked basic black on the red carpet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, including Lady Antebellum, Fergie, Kylie Minogue and even Neil Diamond. Who’d have thought he could be so on trend? Joining in the fun were Taio Cruz, Michelle Williams and Black Eyed Peas’ Taboo, as well.

Neil’s classy black tuxedo was appropriately distinguished for such an occasion as receiving the Icon Award from the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas yesterday. This daringly fashionable gentlemen is easily remembered as the confident rocking guitarist with feathered hair other men could only dream of, the man in the sequin jacket. Unsurpassed in every way, ‘Neil Diamond Fashion’!

New York DMG Antique Show: What to Expect

New York Antique Show

Jewelry Events

Hundreds of jewelry shows are hosted around the world each year. Many of these shows that have been hosted in places such as Hong Kong, Dubai, New York, Las Vegas, and other places have been exclusive to dealers. Fortunately, the forthcoming New York show on July 23-26 will be open to the public. This is a great opportunity for individuals or any serious collectors to check out the variety of items that will be found here – ranging from vintage pieces to modern luxury watches.

The admission cost is a very affordable $15 for all four days. If you’re looking for specific times, please check out our events page of jewelry trade fairs.

Why would it be advantageous to attend this show? Well, there are several reasons. Firstly, this trade show eliminates exclusivity and opens it up to the public – where you, the consumer, can find top brands for lower-than-expected prices. Secondly, the New York show features more than 100 of the top elite dealers in antique and estate jewelry and watch industry. In other words, this will be like eBay in person.

At this show you will find hundreds of pieces from Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Rolex, Patek Philippe, David Webb, David Yurman, Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, and many more. Don’t miss out. This will also present a chance for you to check out our unique collection as well. We look forward to meeting you!

Jewelry Shows

Jewelry shows can be a very interesting and entertaining outing for the family. If you are looking to see a huge selection of jewelry and or antique jewelry, antique and jewelry shows are a great place to visit. There are a few different antique shows, jewelry shows, watch shows and antique and jewelry shows we recommend. You can also visit our company (Raymond Lee Jewelers) at most of the shows we will be discussing. D.M.G. Media has a group of shows that are found in Florida, New York City and  Las Vegas.

The Original Miami Beach Antique Show is in Miami, Florida. This year the dates of the show are Feb. 3-7 , 2011. This is one of the largest and in my opinion best antique shows of the year. At this show you will find a huge collection of art, antiques, watches, diamonds and jewelry. This is really one of the best collections of dealers from in and outside of the country.

The Las Vegas Jewelry and Watch show is in Las Vegas June 3-6 2010. The show is in the MGM Grand Las Vegas and opens one day before JCK. This show is not open to the public and only open to the trade. This is a really fun show, lots of cool stuff. A lot of dealers come out to the Vegas show just because its in Vegas. There are many jewelry shows to visit all at the same time.  The New York Jewelry and Watch Show is in New York City in the Metropolitan Pavilion. This is Dmg’s smallest show by far, but really has a great collection of jewelry and antique dealers. Because this show is in Chelsea it has some great walk in traffic. This show is open to the public. It is a must see, especially if you live in the city.

Lastly, The Miami Beach Antique Jewelry and Watch Show is in October. This jewelry show is in the Miami Convention Center minutes from the famous South Beach. This is a much smaller show than Dmg’s other Miami show. It is a good show though. Because this show is smaller, dealers are motivated to sell. This show is mostly jewelry and some watches. The Palm Beach Show is an up and coming company with a great line up of shows and very knowledgable staff. The Palm Beach Show Group has 4 shows throughout the year. They include, The Baltimore Summer Antiques Show, Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Show, Ft. Lauderdale Art, Antique and Jewelry Show and Dallas International Art, Antique and Jewelry Show.

The Baltimore Summer Antique Show is one of the oldest shows in the country celebrating 30 years. This show is a really nice venue. Lots of interesting one of a kind items to see. The Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Show is February 18-22 2011. This is a great show with great merchandise. Mostly high end and unusual items at this show. Last year this was one of the busiest shows in South Florida. Ft. Lauderdale Show is brand new and this year is the first time it will be open. Should be a good one. We have not attended the Dallas show as of yet. Look here for more information on upcoming jewelry events. You can visit Raymond Lee Jewelers at most of the events discussed in this blog.
