What is the IT color?

What is the IT color?

ALL OF THEM! Every where I look, COLOR, COLOR, and more COLOR! I’m finding color where once color wasn’t! First designer handbags, then watches, what’s next? Socks, tennis shoes, and sunglasses! Maybe in this cold, grey environment with all financial and global turmoil, we need to see sunshine and rainbows when we can’t find our spirit any where else? Well then, good for us!

Rolex, Cartier and even some amazing great colors on David Yurman cocktail rings!  These are fashion forward styles, but found a retailer on EBay that helps all of us everyday people. Check out this site:

Color everywhere!  I see color in shoes never seen before! Who knew florescent yellow could be such a great spring color to wear with something as casual as jeans! Almost anything goes!

Even in the luggage business! Something as laptop sleeves and carriers, they are not just black or brown anymore! When we want to make a statement, we don’t want to stop with our clothes or shoes, we take it all the way!!!

In the kitchen, we see color in knives, in our mixing bowls and in our Kitchen Aids.  I hope we never see this trend end, because I feel like my eyes just can’t get enough of COLOR!

Pink: But not just any pink! Honeysuckle pink (a bright, almost reddish hue) was voted the color of the year by Pantone

Culture Comes to Couture by way of Jewelry Designers

Breaking the Mold:  Cartier, Chanel & Stephen Webster

Jewelry trends are appearing in creative clusters of world culture and artisan craftsmanship in recently exhibited collections, foreshadowing a shift in jewelry design for 2012.  Jewelry designers around the globe are finding innovative methods of implementing global, planetary and metaphysical elements into their pieces.

Karl Lagerfeld, Creative Director and Designer for Chanel, brought Chanel’s cultural exposure to new found heights with the 2011/2012 Cruise Collection and the accompanying Short Film, ‘The Tale of a Fairy’. Lagerfeld’s jewelry designs continue to bring a broader sense of global influence to his pieces, as seen at the Chanel Parisian Metiers d’Art show.

A dazzling necklace was on display, with delicate filigree and decadent pearls, reminiscent of Roman and Oriental jewelry design influences. The daring Chanel piece was explained by Lagerfeld as a tribute to the fifth-century Byzantine empress, Theodora, with dense ornaments and intricate metal weaving.

Cartier shows a glimmering appreciation for their relationship with the maharajahs of India, which propelled success for the jeweler through exceptionally colored jewels in the early 20th century. Cartier released a one-kilogram gold coin, bearing a spectacular image of Taj Mahal last month. The extraordinary coins were placed in customized luxury cases for the French mint La Monnaie de Paris.

Pete Doherty, a popular American musician, will be releasing a jewelry design in Europe in collaboration with British jeweler, Hannah Martin. In the designs of the first collection are fluent attributions to history and evolution. With an obvious adoration of elephants and antiques, the line which will be exclusively sold in Brittain exhibits innovative use of matter rarely found in jewelry designs, such as fossilized mammoth bones.

The unique designs of London-based jewelry designer, Stephen Webster are available in the U.S. for the first time, with the opening of his first American store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, CA. The London jeweler has been a favorite on the Red Carpet and among celebrities, with bold designs that are striking, sexual and controversial, including symbolic re-creations that embody ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’.

With a whole wide world out there, it’s inspiring to see that jewelry designers have found a way to bring culture into couture. Be on the look-out for these global tributes and metaphysical mentions in jewelry trends this summer, and the jewelry design evolution as we enter 2012.

June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2011: ‘Rapid Reporting’ Recap by Raymond Lee Jewelers

Raymond Lee Jewelers

‘Rapid Reporting’

Top of the morning to you, everybody. I trust that everyone has rested up and recharged their batteries, ready to dive into a paramount and productive week. 🙂

If not, please go grab yourself a nice hot cup of coffee, send me one, and let’s get to some seriously ‘Rapid Reporting‘ of the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2011 recap.

Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair 2011

On the final day of The June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, one of the top three jewellery shows in Asia, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, had already been attended by 19, 968 visitors.  According to JewelleryNetAsia.com, the number of both unique and return attendees to this years June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair had shown an increase of 21.5%, compared to the statistics of last June.

From the first day of registration, where overwhelming lines and unexpected spikes in visitors surprised event coordinators, a foreshadowing of one of the most successful years for the Jewellery & Gem Fair was underway. On the first day of the fair, June 23rd, the Antique Jewelry Hall required an additional floor of exhibitor space to accommodate the heightened intrigue with antique jewelry.

By the time press releases from Asia could be found online, initial reports related to the jewelry fair were enthusiastically announcing the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2011 had opened to a record breaking turnout of buyers, exhibitors and enthusiasts.

HONG KONG, June 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2011

Jime Essink, President and CEO of UBM Asia said: “We are delighted that the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair hits a new record high of 1,600 exhibitors this year, a 25% rise on 2010. This further confirms that jewellers around the world recognise the value of joining the June Fair.”

Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs, UBM Asia Ltd said: “The June Fair is an important event in the trade show calendar. To mitigate the risk of holding too much stock, buyers prefer to make more frequent sourcing trips. This propels the growth of the June Fair which presents buyers with the opportunity to source from quality suppliers from around the world every mid-year.”

Over 60% of those attending the Jewellery & Gem Fair in Hong Kong traveled from overseas, just as Raymond Lee Jewelers did. The June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2011 attracted more than 1,596 companies from around the world, with 19,968 visitors from 102 countries and regions having visited the fair before the final day had commenced. The top five of those visiting countries include China, India, Taiwan, Philippines and Thailand.

Numbers of Visitors as Reported by the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair:

  • Day one: 9, 835
  • Day two: 5, 771
  • Day three: 4, 362

Cartier Hong Kong

In addition to the incredible turnout of the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, the trip of our President and VP to Asia proved to include a surprise set of front row seats of the strengthening overseas economy. Just as the diamonds, pearls and gemstones from all over the world were illuminating the streets of Hong Kong for the Jewellery & Gem Fair, the prevalent and increasing use of the euro as currency seemed to shed a bright light on the dedication of  both China and Japan, Asia’s first and second largest economy and foreign exchange reserves powers, to bring financial stability to Europe.

As China’s most valuable economic partner, Europe is being strongly supported in Asian markets. Several reports have been published recently by French media outlets, confirming that the Chinese have taken several different actions which show their support and dedication to the financial recovery of Europe.

Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda 21, also said it would continue through the purchase by the European Financial Stability Fund bonds, etc., to help Europe deal with the debt crisis.

Having traveled from The States, where citizens have spent the past few years fighting a seemingly endless battle for survival through grave economic uncertainties, the scenery of Hong Kong was something so far from the picture of pinching pennies. In the photographs my boss was able to send, it is clear to see upon first glance the current state of world economy, captured in the images of consumers in Hong Kong.

Locals of Hong Kong, and those who traveled from China’s mainland in avoidance of the sales tax, formed lines which wrapped around the block, eagerly awaiting to enter the retail priced storefronts of such names as Cartier, Chanel and Gucci. Business was booming, and not just at The June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair… Business in Hong Kong seems to be booming everywhere!

Scott Rothstein’s World Class Jewelry and Watch Collection to be Sold at Auction

Place Your Bids, South Florida!

One of the most anticipated auctions in South Florida history will take place in Fort Lauderdale this Summer. A world class collection of diamond encrusted jewelry and luxury watches from the estate of high-profile ponzi schemer, Scott Rothstein is scheduled to be auctioned off to registered bidders on July 13th at The Broward County Convention Center.

Florida‘s largest ponzi scam in history yielded over $1.2 Billion for the now dis-barred Fort Lauderdale Attorney, Scott Rothstein. The upcoming July Auction will be the 2nd massive auction of Scott Rothstein’s estate. In 2010, many of the convicted felons big-ticket items were sold at auction, raising a total of $5.8 million to begin repaying his most affected investors.

Of the valuables remaining in Rothstein’s estate are a world-class collection of diamond adorned jewelry and a vast inventory of the most treasured luxury watches in history. Large diamonds, rubies, sapphires and over 200 luxury watches of high-end designers such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Franck Muller, Gerald Genta and Richard Mille are all included in the auction block.

These items will all going to be made available to the public on July 13, 2011. The auction of Scott Rothstein’s Estate will be held at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Other pieces will include jeweled accessories that Scott collected for his cherishes cigar collection, two late-model Corvettes and an 09′ Mercedes SL 550 coupe.

In order to avoid a harmful mistake in judgment by venturing for himself what the jewelry belonging to Rothstein’s Estate may be worth, Rick Levin had the Sun Sentinel contact Jeff Josephson, President of Raymond Lee Jewelers in Boca Raton.

The following are initial assessments given by Jeff Josephson, President of Raymond Lee Jewelers, when presented with the star jewelry pieces that are to be sold at the July 13 auction:

A woman’s platinum diamond bracelet with 41 emerald-cut diamonds weighing a total of nearly 24 carats:
“Gorgeous, high quality, beautifully made. Thirty grand for that.”
A white and yellow gold necklace featuring a 10-carat, heart-shaped diamond:
“Probably worth $85,000.”
A woman’s fancy-yellow, 12-carat diamond ring:
“That is probably a quarter of a million dollars. — Enough money for a couple of Ferrari’s.”

“It is all good stuff,” Jeff Josephson concluded of the pieces. “I think that I want to go to that auction.”

Josephson will, in fact, be attending the auction come July. It is a fair assumption that a large number of attendees from those closely invested or intrigued by the jewelry industry in South Florida will be present at the Broward County Convention Center on July 13, 2011, eager to see for themselves one of the most impressive timepiece collections in history.

2012 Fashion Trends: Oriental Prints, Fur Trims and Short Hems Coming Soon!

Fashion Trends of 2012:

Expect to see prints of the Orient, Lace and Fur Trimming similar to the style of the 1920’s, and Mod Infused Early ’60s Hemlines

Thanks to great resources like Fashionising.com, getting a heads up on the next years fashion trends is within reach. While it’s still a bit early to predict what significantly different changes will take off with a fluster and what trends will fall as complete blunders in 2012, enough information is available to (at the very least). help us prepare the best way possible.

I can only hope that the biker-chic style that was so eminent in the stylings of 2011 remains steadfast as the year turns, as I still have to purchase both my motorcycle boots and jacket.  Of these two things… I have been virtual window shopping for the entirety of 2011.

Chanel Motorcycle Boots - Introduced During 2010 Fashion Week in NY

Philipp Plein Jacket - A MUST HAVE !!!

Now, that said.. Some new trends, both in prints, fits and hems are rumored to be big hits in the upcoming year of 2012. Of these, expect to see an increase in the street style wearing of Komono‘s, oriental prints will be more common, though expected to be a bit more subtle and floral in use. Exotic silks and authentic vintage Kimono’s would be great pre-planning purchases to be a well-prepared fashionista for 2012!

The vintage fashions of this year certainly will not die off and disappear, but they will morph just a bit. From the sophisticated ’70s style we’ve seen so much of this year, with the soft flowing curls and slinky fabrics, expect a shift into the style of the early 1960’s. We’re talking true Mod Girl stuff here, Peter pan collars, short hems, mod hair styles and the Twiggy fashioned eyeliner may be sneaking it’s way back into the fashion forefront.

This year has already opened itself up to many 1930’s inspired fashions, a trend heightened with the release of the Motion Picture, ‘Water for Elephants.’ For both Men and Women, there has been a throw-back to old-fashioned baseball caps, and early styled lace accented dressings for ladies. With the ‘Great Gatsby’ Film expected to be released in 2012, the same will be seen in relation to 1920’s Flapper Fashion.

Avoid costume like ensembles, as these will be easy to spot and difficult to avoid with an expected over-indulged availability of short black wigs and overdone Flapper dresses. Keep this classic trend modern by introducing the ’20s presence in your style in a minimalistic way. Wide-leg trousers and subtle fur trims are great ways to achieve this style without going overboard.

Wide-Leg Trousers

The Chanel 'Le Boy' (A MUST HAVE for 2012!)

The Chanel ‘Le Boy’ is the ultimate glamour bag, with the classic golden braided strap, and intricate lettered perfection of ‘CHANEL’ stitched along the bag’s wide end, these little puppies will be booming in popularity… I want the red one, bad. Already. 🙂

Fashionising.com: Chanel 'Le Boy'

So, there you have it. A few fashion predictors to help you ease your way into a fashionable 2012 from start to finish. Now, we’ll get to what’s pressing currently, which is the preparation for bathing suit season, of course! Get ready for high waists, retro cuts and prints, the return of the one-piece (with a twist), and the early signs of the 1990’s fashion comebacks…

Masculine Monday: Five Fashion Trends for Guys We Strongly Advise Against

Wear At Your Own Risk

Five Fashion Trends for Guys We Strongly Advise Against

Men's Leggings: SOLD OUT

Fashion is different for everybody, and nobody understands that better than a group of Jewelry Enthusiasts who cater to a variety of different tastes and preferences on a daily basis. When the Masculine Monday entries began, we wanted to be sure and ease the minds of men who were overwhelmed with the new demands of accessorizing, and new requirements of brightening your wardrobe that were somewhat forced on the male species throughout the past year.

In an effort to help explain that utilizing one statement piece of otherwise avoided fashion, such as celebrity-inspired shades or a pair of colored trousers, Masculine Monday posts began as an aid to open the minds of men used to monochromatic wardrobes with fear of the unknown… a bit of a boost. We’ve touched on a few awesome pieces of Spring and Summer 2011 fashion to consider, such as the unlined blazer, suede lace-up shoes and renewed henley tee’s for the boys to rock with confidence this Summer. Cuff-links, vintage style wristwatches and classic style (like that of Prince William) are still encouraged as fashionable additions and approaches to men’s appearance.

Skimming through the currently pushed trends through fashion media, I discovered something a bit frightening. We’ve not yet mentioned what to avoid. They say ‘you can’t always believe what you hear.’ Well, the same is true for what you read, of course. Particularly when what you’re reading is the simple comprehensive opinions of fashion professionals. Sometimes there’s a look that can take off, something that was worn down a runway in Milan that enough people embraced that it made fashion headlines. This can often lead to street fashion catastrophe.

Now, believe me, I adore Alexander McQueen. However, I would be prepared for a few cross eyed looks if I hopped in my car to work while sporting a big feathered lavender number with lace embellishments. For these designs, there’s a time and a place. That place is the runway, that time is when you’re a professional model.. or an A-list Actress. Since I have no plans to become either, chances are I probably won’t be frolicking around in some of my favorite McQueen gowns.

In the same sense, sometimes things should just never be worn. By anybody. No offense is intended for the designers of these pieces. Obviously many people enjoy them, and to each their own. This is all opinion, after all… So never take our advice, nor anybody else’s too seriously. If something feels right to you, wear it. Rock it. If you feel like you’re in costume before leaving the house, chances are you will feel that way throughout the evening.

That said, thank you for allowing us to share with you five specific men’s fashions that we simply cannot get on board with this Summer. Let us know what you think…

#1. Men’s Leggings

There’s been a surge in media support for jersey material fitted leggings. Not just for women, but for men as well. While I can get on board with a pair of 3/4 length leggings to work out or walk my dog in, for the life of me (and according to trusted opinion sources from both men and women) there seems to exist no possible event or situation where these fitted jersey leggings should be worn on men.

#1. Men's Leggings

Over the past few years, menswear has gotten consistently slimmer: skinny ties, then suits, then jeans. Now designers like Prada and Jean Paul Gaultier are applying the final squeeze, as men’s leggings (meggings, perhaps?) show up in their fall lines. Some feature stirrups, some are paired with gladiator-style tunics. All are shamelessly tight.Fashion Masochist: Men’s Leggings ‘For guys, “slim fit” has taken on a whole new meaning’

By Jason Feifer

#2. Overdone Retro Footwear

We love the surge of Converse vintage themed comeback kicks, like the old-fashioned high tops with an Americana twist. The DC collection of basketball homage is also worth a 2nd and 3rd viewing, as the sneakers look great in person. The new collections of Converse, DC’s and Doc Martens all share one common element, though. They aren’t forcing anything grandiose into their designs. They’re focusing on details that ultimately matter most when the finished product is worn, and this is probably why so many people are overjoyed by being able to wear their favorite footwear with a renewed appearance. The same cannot be said for the few pieces of extremely futuristic, Back to the Future based, bulky footwear that ironically titles itself as ‘retro.’

It’s a walking contradiction… Literally.

#2. Overdone 'Retro' Footwear

#3. The Chambray Scarf

This is certainly a battle that won’t be easy to win. These scarves first started popping up a good while ago, and they just keep multiplying, now popping out of pockets, worn under sweaters, inspiring the fabrics for tee’s and shorts, etc. Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I have to disagree with the statement of UrbanGent.com that the ‘chambray is an essential.’

No. It’s not an essential. Scarves are feminine. They just are, and no matter how you twist it or present it, they will always appear feminine…

…At least according to the majority of women that have been asked the opinion of.  *Just an FYI*

#3. The Chambray Scarf

#4. The Deep V-Neck

Never a supporter of the original V-Neck, I would proudly protest against the wearing of these designs by men in any Country, at any time. The result of the exaggerated low neckline makes it look like not only are you trying to reveal cleavage, but exposing your chest hair in the process. The shirt, itself, looks confused, even before it’s placed on a male body. Let’s be clear. No man’s body is made for this cut of a shirt. It’s just a bad idea…

#4: The Deep V-Neck

#5. The Man Purse

Actually, there are a few bags that are entirely men’s messenger bags. They have no feminine attributes, and look great with the right outfit to carry your notebook, ipod or other necessities in without feeling like you’re wearing a purse. For instance, this design is ready to fit a laptop, pens, a cellphone and plenty others without a hint of girly. The colors are workable with nearly any ensemble, and it’s… well, manly.

A Few Details:

These are few and far between. With so many man purses fluttering about, it’s easy to be reeled in by a bag that looks like a patent leather accessory. The only thing that could add to the misfortune of an emasculating man purse is dual disaster of something like a man purse/ bright trouser combo. Too much. Too bright. It’s just not right.

#5. The Man Purse

If anyone would like to offer up some feedback, some refute even, it is more than encouraged! I like to be proven wrong, and I’m truly interested as to how other girls/guys feel about these fashion fads. Thanks!

-Alexandra
