Jewelry trends are appearing in creative clusters of world culture and artisan craftsmanship in recently exhibited collections, foreshadowing a shift in jewelry design for 2012.  Jewelry designers around the globe are finding innovative methods of implementing global, planetary and metaphysical elements into their pieces.

Karl Lagerfeld, Creative Director and Designer for Chanel, brought Chanel’s cultural exposure to new found heights with the 2011/2012 Cruise Collection and the accompanying Short Film, ‘The Tale of a Fairy’. Lagerfeld’s jewelry designs continue to bring a broader sense of global influence to his pieces, as seen at the Chanel Parisian Metiers d’Art show.

A dazzling necklace was on display, with delicate filigree and decadent pearls, reminiscent of Roman and Oriental jewelry design influences. The daring Chanel piece was explained by Lagerfeld as a tribute to the fifth-century Byzantine empress, Theodora, with dense ornaments and intricate metal weaving.

Cartier shows a glimmering appreciation for their relationship with the maharajahs of India, which propelled success for the jeweler through exceptionally colored jewels in the early 20th century. Cartier released a one-kilogram gold coin, bearing a spectacular image of Taj Mahal last month. The extraordinary coins were placed in customized luxury cases for the French mint La Monnaie de Paris.

Pete Doherty, a popular American musician, will be releasing a jewelry design in Europe in collaboration with British jeweler, Hannah Martin. In the designs of the first collection are fluent attributions to history and evolution. With an obvious adoration of elephants and antiques, the line which will be exclusively sold in Brittain exhibits innovative use of matter rarely found in jewelry designs, such as fossilized mammoth bones.

The unique designs of London-based jewelry designer, Stephen Webster are available in the U.S. for the first time, with the opening of his first American store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, CA. The London jeweler has been a favorite on the Red Carpet and among celebrities, with bold designs that are striking, sexual and controversial, including symbolic re-creations that embody ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’.

With a whole wide world out there, it’s inspiring to see that jewelry designers have found a way to bring culture into couture. Be on the look-out for these global tributes and metaphysical mentions in jewelry trends this summer, and the jewelry design evolution as we enter 2012.

Masculine Monday: We Haven’t Forgotten About the Rocker Boys!

With so much focus recently being given towards the renewed sense of classic men’s fashion making a strong and steady comeback, certainly didn’t  want to give the impression that we’ve forgotten the pathfinders (or path makers, rather) in men’s style… The Musicians.

Rock Stars will simply never go out of style. They’ve always been there, and so long as the tide keeps turning, there they will remain…

Bob Dylan

Men like Robert Plant, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Kurt Cobain and Jack White, who make their own place in fashion history by creating their own personal and powerful style distinctions… Wearing them with the pride and swagger that belongs only to Rock Stars.

Not only are Rockers adored for their fashion risks, but applauded for just how well they seem to work, no matter how bizarre. ‘80s Rock Band Poison created a fashion sensation among fellow artists and fans with the bright purple leggings worn by guitarist C.C. Deville and front man, Bret Michaels.

And don’t laugh, ladies.. I know a good few of you sent in audition tapes to Rock of Love. One, Two, and THREE!

(It’s alright. So did I…)

Women love musicians. Is it a cliché?  Yes. It is also an inarguable truth.

Kate Hudson is pregnant, and happily engaged to Rocker Matt Bellamy, front-man of Muse. The charming and talented daughter of Goldie Hawn has had a magnetic pull towards musicians throughout her love life, but this Penny Lane finally seems to have found her soul mate in Bellamy.

Kate looks absolutely stunning in every recent photograph, beaming with happiness and excitement to begin their life together as a Family.

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Another gorgeous Actress who has fallen under the spell of a musician is the lovely Kiera Knightley. Rumors of a blooming relationship between Knightley and James Righton, keyboard player for rock band Klaxons, have been confirmed recently through very telling images.

These two coordinating cuties were introduced through mutual friend, Alexa Chung about five weeks ago.

What’s becoming so likeable about the new Rocker Boy fashions is the mild approach to daily ensembles, a casual appearance that has been taking a backseat to way-too-tight pants and super long locks for the past few years.

With a solid pair of charcoal or black sneakers, a plain white tee, some worn jeans and charismatic sunglasses, Rocker Boy’s today are looking ultra adorable in their casual wear. Their Leading Ladies seem to love it too…

So, a few tips on obtaining the simplified Rock Star Style that is capturing hearts from here to England:

Understated, and Making a Statement: The Long Sleeved White Tee

Many of us forget about the long-sleeve lightweight tee. This doesn’t have to be just an undershirt. It looks great by itself, especially highlighted with a great accessory (i.e. watch, bracelet, etc.). Some slick linen pants and sandals would also be right at home with this one – $19 at 80sPurple.com

Men’s Shirts: Patch tees and men’s button down shirts can take a guy from organization casual to rocker on the prowl. Men’s shirt brands like English Laundry, Local Celebrity and Suitable English all offer you wonderful men’s t-shirt styles.

Outerwear and Accessories: Jackets with hand made patchwork, Heirloom buckled belts, simple fashions that exhibit a vintage appeal such as old-fashioned bomber jackets and leather strapped wristwatches will help to achieve the kicked-back Rocker look.

A New Spin on Classic Khaki’s

Khaki’s are making a substantial evolution in men’s fashion.  These summer staples are a beautiful way to maintain a crisp look for the bottom half – Men’s Long Beach pants – $109 at  80spurple.com.

Simple Kicks

Sneakers that are basic in color and fit, absent of any bright accents are a fantastic feature of any laid-back rock star style. These white and grey simple kicks are sure to be a hit on any pair of feet, whether or not they’ll be kicking drum pedals by the end of the night.   $83.95 at Zappos.com

Stylist Manifesto: Sometimes the most appropriate way to go is minimalist. From shoes to accessories, tops to bottoms, there are times when simplicity works best.

So, there you have it fellas. Get the appeal of a rock star, whether you’re a musician, banker or athlete. The attraction of the rocker boy fashion is all in how you wear it. So slip on a pair of casual kicks and a plain white tee. Pair it up with a vintage wristwatch, some charismatic shades, and before you know it…

The Keira Knightley or Kate Hudson you’ve been waiting for will be walking your way!

Masculine Monday: Prince William’s Signature Style of Classic Patriotism

Oh, The Royal Wedding! Such an elegant and beautiful Alexander McQueen gown worn by Kate Middleton, decorated with the most delightful diamond drop earrings and the famous ‘something borrowed’ tiara.

With so much attention being given to the blushing Duchess, I thought today would be a perfect opportunity to recognize the classic style of Prince William. He seems to have created a new genre of men’s fashion, and I personally believe it to be absolutely brilliant!

Prince William prefers clean lines and classic fits, exuding a proper patriotic gentleman appeal that is quite easy to be enamored with.

The leading fashion trends today, from Edwardian Era Engagement Rings for the gals, to Vintage Leather Strapped Watches for the gents, seem to be showing appreciation and paying homage to the men and women of America’s early 20th century more than ever before.

With Classic evolving into Couture … Prince William’s simple, cleanly patriotic look, seen the day of The Royal Wedding, is a clear example of his fashion-conscious style.

In 2000, Prince William was highlighted by People Magazine for his personalized style. At the time, Prince William was making fashion statements with British flag stitched waistcoats, embellished with the words, “Groovy Baby.”

Prince William of Whales was 18 at the time, and has since retreated into a conservative style that unbeknownst to us, was entirely ahead of the fashion curve for men! With a constantly classic and proper wardrobe, Prince William prefers navy blue, burgundy and other regal, richly conservative colors.

His dress shirts tend to be of either lighter blue’s, classic white or cream colored, with classic pointed medium spread collars. His suits are not slim-fitted, and the press has yet to see him sockless. This dedication to proper attire, and avoidance of the fashion trends that sit too far apart from classic are commendable. Prince William has the patriotic gentleman look pinned. Perfectly.

Gentlemen, Get Classic…

There are a few key Royal fashion tips that you should take from Prince William. For upper-dressed occasions, You can’t go wrong with sporting a classic tie clip, small patriotic accents, or navy and burgundy neck ties. On casual days,  polo shirts worn with khakis, and crew-neck sweaters on-top of button-up shirts and trousers will be a successfully royal choice every time.

Have a wonderful day, Ladies and Gentlemen!

Kate Middleton: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

Prince William & Kate Middleton Wed at London’s Westminster Abbey

Kate Middleton Radiates

As of Friday, April 29th, the long-term romance between Will and Kate becomes official Monarch History. The couple was officially titled by Queen Elizabeth the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. A graceful and glamorous Kate Middleton and handsomely proud Prince William remained impressively composed, appearing to be in complete adoration of one another as millions of onlookers crowded the streets of London, and tuned in from across the pond to catch a glimpse of the Royal Wedding.

A million people roared their approval as the royal couple then paraded through London in an open carriage.

Queen Elizabeth in Canary Yellow Angela Kelly

:UPDATE:

In a charming canary yellow ensemble, Queen Elizabeth exhibited her Royal Style on Friday. The Queen wore an Angela Kelly single crepe wool dress design with hand sewn beading. Pinned to her matching double crepe wool tailored primrose coat was Queen Mary’s True Lovers Knot diamond brooch. Her hat with silk roses — also designed by Angela Kelly — was a lovely addition to her outfit. Ladylike accessories like white gloves, pearl necklace and white handbag added a timeless elegance.

The wedding of the century is quickly coming upon us and speculation about every aspect of the wedding is ratcheting up. Gossip rags and major newspapers alike are desperately trying to dig up any information about Prince William’s and Kate Middleton‘s upcoming nuptials. With an expected one billion or more viewers, it is no wonder the media is desperate for the slightest bit of information on the wedding.

One question that everyone seems to be asking is wither or not the Queen will lend Kate a tiara from her royal collection. We all ready know that something new will be her wedding dress, something 0ld and blue will be Princess Diana‘s brilliant ring which features 18 ct. blue sapphire center stone surrounded by colorless  diamond accents in platinum. What we don’t know is what her something borrowed will be. It is widely thought that the Queen will lend Kate one of her tiara’s which would be fitting since Princess Diana wore a tiara to her own wedding as well.

Kate Middleton comes from a family of commoners, and like many of us does not have any royal jewels floating around in her family. If Queen Elizabeth II did lend her royal tiara to Kate it would signify that she approves of the marriage. This would make it an official proclamation that the Queen has no objections to their union and finally put to rest the many rumors that are swirling around the England Country-Side.

The Queen has an extensive collection of tiaras in her royal collection, eight in total. One of the most beautiful is the Vladimir Tiara, which was smuggled out of Russia by a British diplomat in the 1917 revolution. This tiara features fifteen Cambridge emeralds, teardrop pearls and a stunning array of diamonds. Another beautiful tiara is the King George IV State Tiara. This incredible piece has 1,333 diamonds weighing a total 325.75 carats, and has 169 pearls along its base.Queen Elizabeth received the tiara from her mother on her 18th birthday.

Middleton's diamond earrings designed by Robinson Pelham

:UPDATE:

Her tiara, (Cartier), was made in 1936 and was purchased by The Duke of York (King George VI) for his Duchess (The Queen Mother) three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King. The significance of Kate Middleton wearing the Queen’s tiara on Friday is of great importance, symbolizing the emotional bond between the Queen and Princess Catherine.

The tiara sat upon Kate’s whimsically styled half-up, half-down brunette locks, holding a veil of ivory silk tulle and a trim of hand-embroidered flowers. The beautifully blushing Bride wore an Alexander McQueen wedding gown designed by the British brand’s creative director Sarah Burton.

One element of this historic wedding that the media outlets are buzzing over wildly is the jewelry worn by Kate Middleton on her and William’s Big Day. Rave reviews from fashion critics include the acknowledgement that the commoner exhibited stylish Royalty by blending together various time periods of jewelry in perfection.

The pave-set acorn diamond centered earrings worn by Kate Middleton were a Wedding Gift for the new Bride from parents Carole and Michael Middleton. The Robinson Pelham designed pear-shaped earrings were inspired by her family’s new coat of arms, and one of the pieces that are receiving press praises.

“Catherine’s jewelry epitomizes the modern yet timeless bride — she successfully blended elements from several eras together,” jewelry expert Michael O’Connor tells Us. “Her platinum and diamond pear-shaped drop earrings are very much in trend right now, and demonstrate a chic princess style. Catherine’s platinum and diamond tiara borrowed from the Queen is a nod to the past and shows the emotional bond between Catherine and her new family. And of course, the stunning blue sapphire engagement ring added just the right pop of color and was a nod to William’s mother.”

Gwyneth Paltrow: Baume & Mercier’s New Watch Ambassador- Jewelry Appraisal

Jewelry Appraisal

Gwyneth Paltrow is one of those rare celebrities that Hollywood loves yet the public seems to hate. There is no doubt that Ms. Paltrow is an amazing actress but her off-screen comments and actions really make it hard for the general public to embrace her. Born from wealth, Gwyneth Paltrow has been highly criticized in the past for the life tips she offers her fans through her blog. Some gems include: which hotel to stay when traveling to Paris (The Ritz), which purse should be  bought this season (Balenciaga) and the virtues of eating a Macrobiotic diet; it is no wonder many find her a tad snobbish.

In reality Gwyneth Paltrow is one of the few celebrities that honestly enjoys interacting with her fans and often will respond to emails personally; her advice does come from the heart even if it can be a bit ostentatious. She even took a break from acting to focus on her family and raise her children, something many mothers can relate to. Unfortunately the tabloids tend to ignore this side of her personality as it does not sell magazines. She recently has stared in a string of high-profile roles and events such as her new movie Country Strong, her guest appearancee in Glee, hosting Saturday Night Live, her role in Iron Man 1/2 and even singing at the Grammys. Gwyneth Paltrow may be on her way to dethroning Sandra Bullock as America’s sweetheart.

It is no wonder that Baume & Mercier has chosen her as their latest “friend” which means she will be seen wearing some of their amazing timepieces to high profile events. Ms. Paltrow has quite a few wristwatches to choose from like the classic Classima, the Capeland and Linea collections. Baume & Mercier will also be releasing a new line called the Hampton Collection which has an updated, classic look and will look amazing gracing the arm of any women.

If you have a Baume & Mercier watch makes sure you get it and any of your Jewelry Appraisal at Raymond Lee Jewelers.

Rolex Watches: Time to Invest

Exquisite Timepieces.. Ahead of Their Time

Rolex watches have been an icon of ingenuity, precision and craftsmanship since the early 1900’s. It was over a hundred years ago that Rolex wristwatches designated the ultimate compass of quality and design in timepieces. Over a century of accomplishment and innovation by Rolex watch designs include chronometer certification, self-winding mechanisms, automatic time calibration and quartz movement. A name synonymous with luxury and precision, Rolex is the largest single luxury watch brand and among the 100 most valuable global brands.

Rolex Deep Sea

Founded in 1905, “Wilsdorf and Davis” began manufacturing and distributing wristwatches to jewelers in surrounding areas of London. Hans Wilsdorf and brother-in-law, Alfred Davis officially changed the trademark to “Rolex” in 1908 and opened an office in Switzerland. Rolex received the first ever Official Chronometer Certification to be awarded to a wristwatch just two years later. Becoming the first in 1910, Rolex remains the record holder today for most certified chronometer movements in wristwatches.

Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis continued breaking records with the exceptional precision of Rolex wristwatches, awarded with a Class “A” precision certificate in 1914 from The Kew Observatory in Great Britain. The flawless designs of remarkable engineering are seen as clearly today as they had been recognized on those infamous early decades of the 20th century. Rolex wristwatches are certainly standing the test of time, with continued innovation and impeccable quality.

A previously-owned Rolex watch has been revered and suggested as one of the wisest investment choices in both England and America. With retail prices for brand new models rising, there has been an increased popularity and availability of previously-owned Rolex watches. Rolex watches, particularly GMT-Master, Daytona and Submariner models have proven to maintain, and often rise in value over time.

Rolex Wristwatch

As consumers, we may never see a more fitting time to invest in a classic timepiece by Rolex. With jewelry retailers offering previously-owned Rolex watches with CW21 certification at remarkably affordable rates, it is undoubtedly time (no pun intended) to invest in a previously-owned luxury Rolex watch.
