Breakfast with Boca Chamber and Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Show Highlights

Today is shaping up to be quite eventful!  This morning Richard Resnik and myself attended our first Boca Chamber Breakfast, sponsored by JM Lexus at the Country Club at Boca Raton.  We spent a few hours networking, and I received a free super-charged Twitter tutorial by Social Media Guru Staci Garcia. Thanks again, doll face!

Armed with a general understand of hash-tagging and mentions, tweet-reach algorithms and a strong determination, I can now finally proclaim that I understand Twitter. That actually is an accomplishment worthy of notation, as I was always intimidated by that little blue bird.

The Key Speakers from JM Lexus discussed the importance of Social Media for Business, informing the attending Members of how much value and positive impact can be obtained through Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and other Social Media Services. To steal a phrase from their presentation, Social Media in Business is “the fad that will never fade.” I spoke with a lovely gal who was photographing the Member Breakfast, also a writer, currently working in the Communications Department at the Boca Chamber, and we met with many other friendly local professionals.

It was a wonderful morning!

The whole wireless n to wireless g switch has me just a bit befuddled, and it is therefore time to take a quick little break from technology.

Let’s discuss the fantastic boots and couture designs that were revealed on the Milan Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Show runways!

From Alexander McQueen‘s feathered ivory boots to Dolce & Gabbana‘s consistent pairing of tall socks with flat shoes, there were certainly some fashion surprises that I can’t imagine anyone was expecting.

Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2011

Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2011

This lavender fashion fairy tale was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, and is in my all-time top five favorite catwalk creations list. The monochromatic ensembles of Dolce & Gabbana were certainly star spangled, with a repeating theme of tall socks worn with shiny textured flat shoes. To the naked ear, it may sound as if the whole socks with shoes attempt would ultimately fail at being appealing, despite how talented the designer may be. I may have thought the same, had I not seen this image… (Which, by the way, was taken as David Bowie‘s ‘Modern Love‘ provided the musical score! LOVE David Bowie!)

Dolce & Gabbana

The motorcycle jacket. This item has been at the very top of my wishlist since Fashion Week in New York 2010, where I fell head over heels for the Chanel motorcycle boots and black leather jacket. If I close my eyes, I can see those two toned boots paired with the slim fitting biker-chic jacket ever so clearly. While I adore Chanel, and who wouldn’t… my wallet isn’t exactly a fan. This is why the following release via the Vogue Blog made my day extra delightful!

The biker jacket is a classic, and at the Karen Millen press day today we found the perfect one for autumn. A great shape in hard-wearing leather (affordable too), it will hit the stores in September.12 May, 2011

Paris Fashion Week – Chanel Fall Winter 2011

Chanel Fall Winter 2011

This Fashion Re-Cap wouldn’t be complete if the fantastic creations of Philipp Plein Spring Summer 2011 clothing and accessory designs were not mentioned. Quickly becoming my favorite Designer, Plein had exclusively designed furniture prior to 2004, when he embarked on his first street-fashion venture.

Fun Fact? In 2009, Mattel worked with Philipp Plein to design a special limited-edition Barbie doll to commemorate  50 years of the Barbie enterprise.  Philipp Plein-Barbie was presented to the public on February 4, 2009 at the Toy Fair in Nuremberg.

There are so many strong and opposing perspectives when viewing the world of fashion, almost as if personal opinions are heightened in particularity and detailed attention. I’m sure it has something to do with how personal many fashion enthusiasts consider their relationships with clothing to be. That sounds absurd, perhaps, but it actually is a rational and logical observation.

Everyone makes a decision when presented with 31 flavors of ice cream, out of which they must choose only one. Right? Some of us like cookie dough in our ice cream, peanut butter (righteous!), chocolate chips, even cherries and marshmallows show up in the most popular flavors. However, no matter how similar two people may be to one another, they will most often choose different flavors of ice cream.

I’m always the girl that gets vanilla ice cream, and while sometimes the sweet surprises in other flavors look scrumdidly-umptious, I always remain content with my classic choice. Am I right for always choosing vanilla? Can someone be held at fault for a personal preference? Is that a trick question?

With fashion, our personal preferences are ignited with a creative passion that far exceeds ice cream. We become protective of our perceptions, our preferences, as if there is one right answer, when there truly is no correct or incorrect where opinions are concerned. While I may rave about the incredible fashions of Philipp Plein, being nothing less than impressed by every ensemble showcased, I’m sure that a plethora of completely opposing opinions wouldn’t be hard to find.

That said, allow me to finally make the disclaimer I’ve been building up to…

The thoughts and opinions expressed within the Raymond Lee Jewelers Blog come from a personal point of view, and do not represent Raymond Lee Jewelers or any of the Jewelry and Fashion Designers mentioned.
