Welcome back from the long weekend readers! Today’s post has been taken over by yellow gold fever with a few of the current timepieces in the shop. Yellow gold is making a comeback with its arm tones and luxe look, and these 5 watches are our top tick-picks for your wrists.

Patek Philippe 3671 18K Yellow Gold Square Watch

In 1845 Antoni Patek joined with the French watchmaker Adrien Philippe and Patek Philippe & Co was founded in 1851.Credited with inventing the watch as we know it, this brand invented the perpetual calendar, split-seconds hand, chronograph, and minute repeater in watches. This 18kt rare gold stunner makes an interesting and classic addition to a watch collection.

Cartier Tank Francaise 18kt Men’s Full Size Watch

In 1917, Cartier debuted its Tank watch, inspired by the Renault tanks that Cartier observed during World War I. The Tank Francaise’ s smooth, rounded edges and clean lines set a standard for elegance, while the flawless integration of the bracelet into the watch’s case itself create a unified and uninterrupted tableau of sophistication. The Cartier Tank Francaise is an icon, and a necessity for any complete watch wardrobe.

Rolex Daytona 16528 18kt Mens Watch

This chronograph is named for the famous Rolex 24 at Daytona, and is prized for its accuracy. The Zenith movement featured in the seconds series is considered the best and most accurate of the Chronograph series to date. This increasingly rare yellow gold Daytona is masculine, sporty, precise and above all – elite.

Rolex Day-Date 18038 Presidential White Diamond Dial

Given to President Eisenhower by Rolex, the Day Date model (named so for its day and date display windows at 12 and 3, respectively) earned its nickname the “President.” To this day, several subsequent Commanders-in-Chief have also worn this Presidential model. This specific timepiece stands out with a beautiful white diamond and Roman numeral dial.

Rolex Presidential 179158 18kt

Last, but certainly not least, the Pièce de résistance of Tubular Tuesday is this 2001 Oyster Perpetual Datejust with Tahitian Mother of Pearl and diamond dial and a diamond bezel with diamond accents on the case. This elegant, stunning watch is sure to stand out.

Charlie Sheen: Adonis DNA and Patek Philippe Devotion

A Looney Love Story

Charlie Sheen not only harnessed Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA, but also a potentially dangerous devotion to watchmaker, Patek Philippe. The high-profile fan, and expert of sorts in regard to the various wristwatch models of Patek Philippe, is arguably a bit too attached to these spectacular creations.  Not too long ago, you may remember, Sheen completely dismantled his hotel room at the Plaza. Charlie was a man on a mission, and hunted for his ‘Patek 5970’ even after the hotel room destruction.

Some may consider his “Crazy Torpedo of Truth” a symbol of a man who’s gone mad. However, Sheen’s high quality taste in regard to timepieces seems to have remained fully intact.  In the picture above, we see Charlie wearing one of his beloved Patek Philippe watches, a 5131, as he carefully balances a cigarette and stuffed tiger in the other hand.

What a classic capture this image is.  Sporting one of the most exquisite watchmakers in history on one wrist, and two of his classic bad-boy fixations in the other. In a way, it adds to my jovial adoration of Charlie Sheen.  Sure, he may believe that he is ‘above a normal human’, with elements of tiger blood, Adonis DNA and a Warlock status, but the man still knows great watches!

Charliee Sheen: A Twitpic of his beloved 'Patek Philippe'

This was one of the first ‘tweets’ made by Mr. Charlie Sheen. He titled the infamous ‘twitpic‘, ‘The only watch that keeps Warlock time‘.

There still remains a controversy over exactly what vintage model Patek it is that ‘keeps Warlock time’

Research leaves two possible suspects as to exactly which rare vintage model Patek Philippe is being worn by Sheen in the photograph.

#1: Patek Philippe Reference 2497

#2: Patek Philippe Reference 2438/1

Patek Philippe 2438/1

The extremely uncommon, 37mm broad wristwatch was produced in small amounts, from 1952 into the early ’60s. Not just may be the fairly watch very uncommon, but it’s really useful. During a Christie’s public sale last year, this model was offered in close range to $707,612. This model possesses the Patek Philippe yearly diary “triple date” design motion, with 30 day indications. The indications have both a moon phase, in addition to the day, beneath them.

The variations between the 2497 model Patek and the 2438/1 are incredibly minor, leaving both as strong possible matches.

If anyone can tell me precisely which model Sheen is wearing in his ‘twitpic’…

I’ll give you 10% off any Patek Philippe timepiece purchase!

Masculine Monday: We Haven’t Forgotten About the Rocker Boys!

With so much focus recently being given towards the renewed sense of classic men’s fashion making a strong and steady comeback, certainly didn’t  want to give the impression that we’ve forgotten the pathfinders (or path makers, rather) in men’s style… The Musicians.

Rock Stars will simply never go out of style. They’ve always been there, and so long as the tide keeps turning, there they will remain…

Bob Dylan

Men like Robert Plant, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Kurt Cobain and Jack White, who make their own place in fashion history by creating their own personal and powerful style distinctions… Wearing them with the pride and swagger that belongs only to Rock Stars.

Not only are Rockers adored for their fashion risks, but applauded for just how well they seem to work, no matter how bizarre. ‘80s Rock Band Poison created a fashion sensation among fellow artists and fans with the bright purple leggings worn by guitarist C.C. Deville and front man, Bret Michaels.

And don’t laugh, ladies.. I know a good few of you sent in audition tapes to Rock of Love. One, Two, and THREE!

(It’s alright. So did I…)

Women love musicians. Is it a cliché?  Yes. It is also an inarguable truth.

Kate Hudson is pregnant, and happily engaged to Rocker Matt Bellamy, front-man of Muse. The charming and talented daughter of Goldie Hawn has had a magnetic pull towards musicians throughout her love life, but this Penny Lane finally seems to have found her soul mate in Bellamy.

Kate looks absolutely stunning in every recent photograph, beaming with happiness and excitement to begin their life together as a Family.

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Another gorgeous Actress who has fallen under the spell of a musician is the lovely Kiera Knightley. Rumors of a blooming relationship between Knightley and James Righton, keyboard player for rock band Klaxons, have been confirmed recently through very telling images.

These two coordinating cuties were introduced through mutual friend, Alexa Chung about five weeks ago.

What’s becoming so likeable about the new Rocker Boy fashions is the mild approach to daily ensembles, a casual appearance that has been taking a backseat to way-too-tight pants and super long locks for the past few years.

With a solid pair of charcoal or black sneakers, a plain white tee, some worn jeans and charismatic sunglasses, Rocker Boy’s today are looking ultra adorable in their casual wear. Their Leading Ladies seem to love it too…

So, a few tips on obtaining the simplified Rock Star Style that is capturing hearts from here to England:

Understated, and Making a Statement: The Long Sleeved White Tee

Many of us forget about the long-sleeve lightweight tee. This doesn’t have to be just an undershirt. It looks great by itself, especially highlighted with a great accessory (i.e. watch, bracelet, etc.). Some slick linen pants and sandals would also be right at home with this one – $19 at

Men’s Shirts: Patch tees and men’s button down shirts can take a guy from organization casual to rocker on the prowl. Men’s shirt brands like English Laundry, Local Celebrity and Suitable English all offer you wonderful men’s t-shirt styles.

Outerwear and Accessories: Jackets with hand made patchwork, Heirloom buckled belts, simple fashions that exhibit a vintage appeal such as old-fashioned bomber jackets and leather strapped wristwatches will help to achieve the kicked-back Rocker look.

A New Spin on Classic Khaki’s

Khaki’s are making a substantial evolution in men’s fashion.  These summer staples are a beautiful way to maintain a crisp look for the bottom half – Men’s Long Beach pants – $109 at

Simple Kicks

Sneakers that are basic in color and fit, absent of any bright accents are a fantastic feature of any laid-back rock star style. These white and grey simple kicks are sure to be a hit on any pair of feet, whether or not they’ll be kicking drum pedals by the end of the night.   $83.95 at

Stylist Manifesto: Sometimes the most appropriate way to go is minimalist. From shoes to accessories, tops to bottoms, there are times when simplicity works best.

So, there you have it fellas. Get the appeal of a rock star, whether you’re a musician, banker or athlete. The attraction of the rocker boy fashion is all in how you wear it. So slip on a pair of casual kicks and a plain white tee. Pair it up with a vintage wristwatch, some charismatic shades, and before you know it…

The Keira Knightley or Kate Hudson you’ve been waiting for will be walking your way!

Preowned Luxury Watches: Patek Philippe Nautilus

Preowned Luxury Watches

Patek Philippe Nautilus

Patek Philippe is the world’s most renown name in preowned luxury watches.   Patek Philippe is the standard that other luxury watch companies try to live up to.  Their watches are made with immaculate precision and are meant to last for generations.

The Patek brand has been making watches since Patek, Czapek, and Cie was founded in 1839.  It was not until 1932, however, that the company named changed a final time to Patek Philippe.  Over the years, Patek has patented over 70 items; showing how innovative they are as a company.  Patek Philippe is the only luxury Swiss watch company to craft all of its own mechanical movements.

One of the most sought after Patek Philippe preowned luxury watches is the Nautilus.  Simple in its design, the Nautilus is meant for one thing; telling the time.  The two tone Nautilus, made from stainless steel and 18kt yellow gold, is a classic dress watch.  Inside the case is an automatic movement which requires no battery.  It also has a date function adding to the functionality of the watch.

Patek Philippe: A History

watch sell

Buy Patek Philippe

Antoni Norbert Patek and Adrien Philippe founded Patek Philippe & Co.  in 1851.  Patek was already an established pocket watch maker and Philippe was the inventor of the keyless winding mechanism.  This unique combination of skill sets led to the creation of a company that makes exquisite timepieces.

Patek Philippe, like most luxury watch companies, manufacture mostly automatic and manual winding watches.  There watches are some of the most expensive on the market.  Their value is so high because of the incredible craftsmanship that goes in to each piece.  With some watches having incredibly complicated chronograph movements the utmost precision must take place.  Patek Philippe watches are also known for lasting from generation to generation.

Unlike most luxury watch companies, Patek Philippe manufactures its own movements.  A lot of times luxury watch companies get their movements from an outside company instead of making it themselves.  Patek Philippe believes in making their own.

1889 – patent for “Perpetual Calender Mechanism” for pocket watches

1902 – patent for “Split-Seconds Chronograph”

1916 – first complicated ladies wristwatch

1925 – first watch produced with a perpetual calander

1932 – Patek Philippe is sold to Jean and Charles Stern.  Also the first watch from the Calatrava collection is produced

1941 – regular production of perpetual calendar watches

1953-1956 – patents for self-winding mechanisms

1959-1962 – patents for time-zone watches

1968 – introduction of the Ellipse collection

1976 – introduction of the Nautilus sport watch collection

1993 – introduction of the Gondolo collection

1996 – patent for “annual calendar” mechanism

1999 – introduction of the ladies twenty-4 collection

Breitling Chronomat B01

watch sell

Breitling Chronomat B01

For the first time in 126 years Breitling created their very own chronograph movement.  The Chronomat B01 will be the first watch to use it.  To have an in-house chronograph movement is to be among only a few luxury watch companies with such capabilities.  Even companies like Rolex have used other watch manufactures for their chronograph movements.  For years the Daytona was made with a Zenith movement.  Because a chronograph is so complicated it is common for companies to turn to cheaper, mass produced chronographs for their watches.  Breitling has finally decided to create their own, thus introducing the Caliber B01 automatic chronograph movement.

The Chronomat B01, like most Breitlings, combines impeccable design with improved functionality.  Things like the rotating bezel add beautiful craftsmanship along with real life uses.  As you can see from the picture above, if you look hard enough you will notice a square on the dial.  This just adds to the already noticeable expertise that went into designing this watch.  Even the sub dials are separated into sections for easier reading.

With a 43.5 mm case the Breitling Chronomat B01 makes a statement.  It is not too big or too flashy but it will draw attention.  This watch is a perfect size for a generation who is obsessed with large watches.  Also added to the watch is a shock-absorbing escape wheel.  This ensures accuracy in case of turbulence or physical blows.

According to the April 2010 edition of Watch Time magazine, the Breitling Chronomat B01 beat out the new IWC Big Ingenieur Chronograph 89 – 86 with all areas of watchmaking being considered.  Scoring basically identical scores in each category the difference came down to overall value.  The Breitling on rubber retails for $6,800 while the IWC is selling for $13,500 with a crocodile strap.

Only time will tell if switching to an in-house chronograph movement will pay off for Breitling.  But what we do know is Breitling has made drastic efforts to compete with the likes of luxury watch companies such as Rolex and Patek Philippe.  Making their own chronograph will add to a long list of credibility backed by over 125 years of experience.  The Chronomat B01 combines flawless design with remarkable accuracy to create one handsome watch.
