Turq and Marigold

Turq and MarigoldTurquoise, Marigold and Coral.. Welcome the Colors of Summer 2011

These two happy summer colors that will be embraced by the sun’s beaming rays throughout these heated next few months. The marigold trend is one that I would like to proudly proclaim to have been ahead of the curve on. Unfortunately, that’s not exactly true. I’ve always been a sucker for rich yellows, all shades of yellow actually.

So, while I was simply just promoting my favorite color, I have unknowingly been sporting this ‘trend of summer 2011’ since summer of 2008, and I’m delighted to keep the party going. There’s something uplifting about having yellow on. Whether it’s on your nails, eyelids, fitted tank top or super cute sandals, this eternally optimistic color was made for the sunlit days of summer!

InStyle: Marigold ‘A playful yellow that demands attention, this buttery shade adds a ward glow to any wardrobe’

This bold color is a little challenging to work with at first. You want to avoid looking like a bumble bee, so while black is usually the color that goes with everything, the rule does not apply in this particular combination. Gold accessories will match the warm hue of marigold. For palette considerations, try using white as an off-set color, which brings an innocence to the outfit.

Instead of black, try heather grey or neutral colors to create an edgy vibe while avoiding the bumble bee blunder. Other fun colors to play with in combination with this bold yellow include olive, royal blue, garnet and purple. The same rule applies for eye make-up. Avoid black eye liner or shadow. Using browns that stay on the subtle side will help to brighten your eyes instead of making them look too heavy.

In the sample ensembles I created on one of my new favorite sites, Polyvore (above), I fell for the intriguing appeal of the black schoolgirl cardigan with the high-waisted shorts from Armani Exchange. Yes, I broke the no bumble bee rule, sort of. However, with the white striping of the cardigan and the button accents on the shorts, there’s enough couture presence to earn a hall pass.

Turquoise Makes Its Summertime Comeback

By Christene Barberich

The Glam Slam! France collection consists of White Shatter matched up with a silver sparkle lacquer called Spark de Triomphe and Red Shatter paired with a shimmery pink called Rally Pretty Pink, while the Blue, Navy, and Turquoise Shatters add a little rock to the nautical look’s typically preppy boat.

OPI Glam Slam! France nail polish sets, $14.95 each, and Blue, Navy, and Turquoise Shatters, $8.50 each, all available in May. Visit OPI.com for more information.

Turquoise isn’t only taking over eBay searches and nail polish shatters… It will be seen in bathing suits, cover ups, sandals and beach bags everywhere this summer. Turquoise is a staple of summer, and as the heightened interest of the color arrives, the fashions of jewelry and clothing to meet the demands rise steadily in summer-ready supply.

There are lots of fun new designs, playful and light. Perfect summer accessories are just within reach. It’s time to get excited about this copper aluminum phosphate, and snag yourself a staple piece turquoise jewelry!

With the collage of pieces in the turquoise section, you’ll see that incorporating a little bit of coral into outfits that focus on turquoise is absolutely possible. Just be sure that the coral stays an accent color, and doesn’t begin to compete with the turquoise for attention. Lots of fun is to be had with turquoise, as the color spans from hues of green to grey to blue and back again. This also makes ‘matching’ somewhat impossible for different pieces, so don’t be overly specific on how close the shades need to be to one another. Break up the outfit with a white cami or multi-colored bangles in order to avoid looking like a walking bubble of blue.

Have yourselves a fantastic weekend!!!

Emma Watson: Glamour Magazine’s Best Dressed Woman in Britain

Emma Watson’s first film debut in the United States was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, released in 2001, (referenced in Britain as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.) Watson was just nine when the first Harry Potter Film was filmed.

Critics raved that Emma “stole the show,” and she was nominated for five awards for her performance in Philosopher’s Stone, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress. Here we are, just ten years later announcing…

Emma Watson is awarded Glamour Magazine’s Best Dressed Woman in Britain!

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990 (happy birthday!) in Paris, where she would live until the age of five. As she neared the age of six, Watson moved with her mother and younger brother to Oxfordshire.

Emma proclaimed that she would be an actress, and for the next few years studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. Emma Watson had performed in various school plays and productions at the theatre school, but had never acted professionally prior to the Harry Potter films.

The English actress and model who rose to prominence playing Hermione Granger is now the title holder of the coveted top spot of Glamour Magazine’s Best Dressed Women List (Britain).

Having a charming and clever impact of the fashion world from 2001 through 2009, this talented Actress has an evolving array of style risks and wins that always leave you wanting more.

There is no doubting the style talents of Emma Watson, particularly after she became a familiar face in the front rows of fashion shows, and being praised as both a muse and model for the British fashion house, Burberry.

Much like Mia Farrow, when Emma Watson appeared with a dramatic pixie cut, her appeal was boosted among everyone. Her strong presence and playful take on trends make this gal just so lovable!

The Girls Aloud star was pushed into second place, while Twilight actress Kristen Stewart came in third, followed by Cole’s fellow The X Factor judge Dannii Minogue and model/TV presenter Alexa Chung.
The top 10 is rounded out by Rihanna, Kate Moss, Blake Lively, Olivia Palermo and Lea Michele.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: Maxim’s #1 Girl Arrives in Style to Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Gala

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has recently been awarded the coveted title of ‘Hottest Woman in the World’ on Maxim Magazine‘s Hot 100 List, in addition to recently having received the CinemaCon’s Female Star of Tomorrow vote.  You may recognize this 24 year old beauty from the runway, commercials, or pages of the Victoria’s Secret enterprise.

The model is quickly moving up in the world of Hollywood, replacing Megan Fox in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, expected to be released later this Summer. While many expected Megan Fox to return in the third Transformers Film, it seems the friction between Fox and Transformers Director Michael Bay was such that he felt a new face was necessary for Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

For more on Megan Fox, the bane of Michael Bay’s Existence, and why….  Read This.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley attended the ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ Costume Gala on Monday, along-side boyfriend Jason Statham. Rosie was stunning in her custom rose silk gown, a nude python clutch, and shoes all by Burberry.  She finished off her look with Fred Leighton jewels. Absolutely stunning!

We couldn’t help but notice how very ’70s sophisticate the gown and accessories were, in style, fabric and fit. This is a fashion trend that few have been able to pull off so (seemingly) effortlessly. Many times, too many competing pieces of yellow gold jewelry, or an overdose of sequins and playful colors, can decidedly destroy the classy appeal of what Rosie Huntington-Whiteley succeeded in on Monday in New York City.

The breathtaking Actress took her first public photo’s with British Actor boyfriend, Jason Statham of  The Expendables.

Be sure to check out the ‘Hottest Woman in the World’ this Summer in ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ alongside Shia LaBeouf.

Kate Middleton’s Gown Reminds Time Magazine of Grace Kelly

In the highlights of the Royal Wedding from Friday, Kate Middleton is clearly the epitome of grace, poise and a genuine classic charm. It therefore comes as no surprise that Feifei Sun recognized below the connection between Grace Kelly and the Royal Newlywed, Kate Middleton…

Kate Middleton’s white gown, designed by Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, reminded us of the wedding dress of another princess: Grace Kelly.

The American actress and Princess of Monaco‘s gown had a high collar top, long lace sleeves and full skirt. It has since become one of history’s most iconic wedding dresses and one widely copied. Middleton picked a similar silhouette for her wedding today, although her gown’s low v-neckline gave the new princess a more modern feel. And she isn’t the only one to have take fashion inspiration from Kelly—Ivanka Trump wore a Kelly-inspired dress designed by Vera Wang to her 2009 wedding to Jared Kushner.

P.S. The sweetest moment was when Prince William turned around to take Kate’s hand before they went inside from the balcony, and she glances back just for a moment with a blushing smile. I became very sappy when we watched the footage… Who doesn’t love a love story, right? Be Well Everybody!  –Alexandra at Raymond Lee Jewelers

“A vintage Ungaro skirt that I found on Ebay, an American Apparel striped sweater, 70s Erwin Pearl necklace,  Balenciaga sunglasses, my favorite Coach clutch, and Christian Louboutins.”

Clock Inspired 70s Erwin Pearl necklace

This timepiece-inspired statement necklace by jewelry designer Erwin Pearl, circa 1970’s is (in my humble and personal opinion), the glue that holds this bodacious outfit together. Sometimes an outfit even as adorable and stylish as this one, with a great pink pencil skirt and amazing matching clutch and heels still needs that one illuminating piece of jewelry that ties every piece together in perfect stylish harmony.
