Yesterday, and released the results of its Engagement & Jewelry Study, which surveyed more than 10,000 U.S. brides and 1,000 U.S. grooms engaged or married in the past year. This study is the most comprehensive survey of wedding jewelry purchases, and shows some clear trends for 2011 – Raymond Lee Jewelers breaks it down.

Most Grooms Aren’t Basing Their Budget on the Economy

With the economy making a measly recovery (on a good day) one would think that engagement ring sales would have taken a big hit, but grooms aren’t skimping on the most important purchase of their lives. Only 14% of men said that they had purchased a less expensive ring due to the shaky economy. The average cost of an engagement ring is around $5200, down only $600 from 3 years ago, while the luxury engagement ring segment spends an average of $13,500.

Round Rings Rule

Rounds remain the most popular choice for engagement rings with 53% of brides opting for a round diamond. The luxury segment prefers rounds even more, with 57% of luxury engagement rings featuring round diamonds. And while princess remains the next most popular cut, cushion cut diamonds are trending for both the typical engagement segment and luxury segment.

Among the Luxury Segment, Tradition is Tops

Perhaps the reason that rounds shine brighter among the luxury segment is their classic shape. Also, luxury engagement rings feature larger center stones and might only require one large, solitaire round to make a statement. Another tradition among those who live luxe? Grooms asking the bride’s father for permission – a whopping 80% of them asked Pops before popping the question. One tradition that spans across both segments? Getting down on bended-knee: 77% of grooms opted for this.

Uniqueness is Prized

Grooms are choosing to add personal elements to pre-existing ring designs or to commission original designs. 41% of grooms, and 59% of grooms within the luxury segment, are adding to or creating new designs. Additionally, while white gold remains the most popular metal, grooms are favoring metals like tungsten and titanium in their rings.

Grooms are Sticking to Brick and Mortar Stores

Only 9% of grooms purchased their rings from online retailers, while 35% of them bought the ring at a national jewelry chain. Local and independent jewelers, like Raymond Lee Jewelers, accounted for 39% of all groom’s engagement ring purchases. And regardless of the name on the receipt, brides are gently nudging their beloveds towards “The One”, with 65% admitting to being “somewhat involved” and 31% “very involved.”

Kim Kardashian: Bride to Be Flaunts $2 Million Engagement Ring Designed by Lorraine Schwartz, Announces Plans To Wed Kris Humphries in Alexander McQueen

While the media isn’t giving this couple too much credibility, it seems that there are some tell tale signs that we are seeing a true love story as opposed to the claims that the Sports Star was paid to marry Kim Kardashian, or that the new Bride purchased the ring herself. (Which she could have, and more power to her just for that ability!) Kardashian never flaunted Kris Humphries around like arm candy, not was she exceedingly public with their romance or obsessed with his appearance publicly.

That shows a great deal of respect for the relationship and for Kris Humphries, as this gal is no stranger to spouting off with comments about possible suitors that may have been considered… demanding or expectant. With Kris Humphries, I see a sweeter, more genuine person in Kim Kardashian. If this relationship has brought that happiness of a content existence into the young beauties life, the tabloids may be eating some crow for proclaiming this marriage didn’t ‘stand a chance.’

Kim Kardashian Engagement Ring

Kim Kardashian‘s stunning 20.5-carat engagement ring is obviously big. It’s so big, in fact, that husband-to-be Kris Humphries was able to include several inscriptions on the inside of the sparkler. “It’s engraved, with two things from the Bible,” Humphries tells PEOPLE. “There’s one verse [Proverbs 31: 10-31] about the perfect godly woman,” he explains. “The other, [1 John 3:18] is about love. It took me … a few days to pick them out and research the perfect ones.” In the middle of the two passages is a third inscription, “K [hearts] K,”standing, of course, for Kris and Kim.

Diamonds: Not Just a Girls Best Friend in Boca Raton

The birthstone for the month of April is Diamond.  The hardest substance known to man.  In fact the word diamond comes from the Greek word adamas, which means unbreakable.  The first diamond was discovered in India during the 9th century B.C.  India was the worlds only source for diamonds until the year 1725 when diamonds were first discovered in Brazil.  Since then diamond deposits have been found in South Africa, Australia,  Russia, Canada and even the United States of America just to name a few of the nations that produce diamonds for the global market.  Despite the fact that diamonds seem to be found all over the world very few are actually worthy of being considered gem quality.

Here at Raymond Lee Jewelers  in Boca Raton, Florida, we have a large selection of diamonds in all sizes.  We pride ourselves in having the best selection of stones in all sizes and the best quality.  We also have a strong selection of Canary, Champagne, and even Chocolate diamonds.  We have a beautiful assortment of mountings.  If you have a diamond and would like to change the setting our design specialist is on hand for a free consult.  Just call Richard to make and appointment.  Looking forward to working with you soon.-

The proposal

Visit Raymond Lee Jewelers Website blog

I heard an interesting story today on the radio while driving to work.  A young woman told the radio how her boyfriend of 4 years finally popped the question.  At the time she said yes however now she realizes that she isnt ready to get married, doesn’t want to break up and definitely wants to keep the ring.  What happened next is pretty much what you could expect……an avalanche of callers telling her whether or not she was right or wrong.

1) As a matter of law the reciept of an engagement ring is in all sense of the word a provisional contract.  It is a promise to marry.  Should the engagement be called off, regardless of who does the calling off the ownership of the ring remains property of the guy who purchased it.  If a woman keeps the ring, aside from being completely in poor taste if he were to take her to court she would most definitely lose the case and in some cases be brought up on criminal charges. Not Pretty!

2) Guys……..if you propose to someone on a holiday or in this case a birthday and it doesnt work out prior to getting married it can be argued that the ring was a gift for that particular occasion and though it is clear that the ring is an engagement ring the overlapping occasion is all that is needed to make a painful memory a costly one……

And Guys, for the record, lets say you ignored this rule and decided to propose on a birthday, Christmas, Valentines day or any other holiday, you definitely will lose points for lack of originality.  Plus having the engagement ring do double duty as a holiday gift is just tacky.

Raymond Lee Jewelers – I AM ENGAGED!!!

What is about weddings that make even your most distant relative  and/or acquaintance act strange.  A wedding is supposed to be about you and your future spouse making a commitment to each other and a celebration of that commitment. Some how a wedding becomes about everything but the two of you, and all of a sudden your consumed by a never ending list most of which, are your guests special requests. Who knew an  engagement ring  can cause such a stir. I mean it is just jewelry right? Or is it something much more?  At Raymond Lee Jewelers we think it is more than just jewelry it is  an heirloom to be passed on for generations.

Raymond Lee Jewelers How To Know She Is The One

If you are over 30 years old and in a relationship for longer than a year the thought of her being “The One” may have crossed your mind. Unsure of what “The One”  really means or feels like can cause much confusion. What is further confusing is when you ask people they respond by saying you will just know. What does that mean,   just know? How can you be expected to just know when you’re not even sure what you are having for dinner, let alone the rest of your life.  At Raymond Lee Jewelers we answer this life-changing question on a regular basis. The best way to know if she is “The One” is to picture yourself 10 years from now. Is she in that picture or are flying solo? If you are uncertain of what your future holds, look at moments you have spent with her when something really great or awful has happened to her, did it feel like it happened to you too? (There other ways to tell and will be in future blogs)  Since Raymond Lee Jewelers  has been selling engagement rings for 26 years, and counting,  we have seen every type of relationship reach “The One” status. What can be passed one from all these years of experience is “The One” status is reserved for only the most special connections, and to us at Raymond Lee Jewelers it is obvious which connections are the “The One”.
