Bedat & Co. No 8 Limited Edition Watch- Watch Repair

Watch Repair

Watch Repair

Earlier today I wrote an article describing the growing trend towards more classic and slimmed down watches. In the past we have written countless articles on larger and thick cased timepieces, today instead I wanted to shine a light on a magnificent midsized watch. Bedat & Company have  released a limited edition watch called the No. 8 model number878.410.313.

This is truly a beautiful watch it has an 18 carat rose gold case, a unique black sunburst patterned dial, and rose gold markers. Like many classic midsized timepieces the dial has only a few features; there is the name of the brand on top with the, “Geneve” underneath it. The dial also has a seconds sub dial with the words, “limited edition” in the middle. My favorite feature of this wristwatch is the hand-woven alligator strap which you rarely see anymore and makes this watch really stand out.

Bedat & Company is a relative newcomer on the Swiss watch market that specializes in feminine luxury timepieces. Bedat & Co. is well known for mixing a contemporary modern look with a traditional art deco spirit. Many of their watches are crafted from stainless steel and feature diamonds set in the bezel. Founded in 1996 by Simone Bédat and her son Christian Bédat, Bedat & Co. has had a roller coaster story of success. Watch Repair.

Simone Bedat started her career at Lang SA a watch case manufacture in Switzerland; it is here that she gathered the majority of her expertise and experience that would eventually lead her to open her own company. Simone Bedat was head clerk at the age of 18 and worked for Lang SA for ten years until she moved on to Camy Watch Company in Geneva.

While working for Camy Simone Bedat worked closely with fellow entrepreneur Raymond Weil, they eventually both left Camy to create Raymond Weil watches in 1975. In 1996 Ms. Bedat decided it was her time to branch off on her own and created Bedat & Co. with her son, Christian. Their first collection featured classic timepieces that were made with Swiss precision and parts.

The models N°3, N°7.Ref. 304 and Ref. 314 were big hits and solidified Bedat & Co. place in the Swiss watch market. They only grew over the next four years attracting the attention of Gucci who acquired 85% of the business in 2000. Today Bedat & Co. is owned by a Malaysian based company called LuxuryConcepts Timepieces and continues to release beautiful watches with Swiss parts at a reasonable price.

Angelina Jolie’s Classic Cartier Tank Louis Watch- Florida Diamonds

Florida Diamond

Florida Diamond

I recently did a post regarding Jennifer Aniston’s bold watch style and I thought it would be only appropriate to do a post on her rival, Angelina Jolie. Unlike Ms. Aniston, Angelina Jolie is often seen wearing smaller, more feminine timepieces that tend to accentuate her very slender wrist like a Chanel watch.

Ms. Jolie’s most recent acquisition is the legendary Cartier Tank Louis; a beautiful, art deco,  18kt yellow gold watch with a brown leather strap. Created in 1917 and available to the public in 1922, this was Louis Cartier’s crown jewel and the one watch he was known to give to his closest friends and confidants. This watch is perfect for everyday use or to more upscale events, the slim design exudes luxury without calling attention to itself. Florida Diamonds.

The Cartier Tank Louis features parallel sidepieces and a rectangular frame, which is only offered in 18kt gold. The dial is white with beautifully contrasting black roman numerals on its face. Like most of Cartier’s watches the circular-grained crown is set with a sapphire cabochon. The Tank Louis features a 057 caliber quartz movement, this extraordinary movement complements the spectacular case and strap.

Whichever actress style you associate more closely with, we hear at Raymond Lee Jewelers have the watch for you. We sell previously owned watches in amazing condition at low prices.

The Rolex Day-Date Or Is It President?- Collateral Loan

Collateral Loan

Collateral Loan

The Rolex Day-Date is one of the most popular watches in Rolex’s history. Popularized by both politicians and movie stars, the Day-Date has become a symbol of wealth and power. Now many of you may know about this watch but you may not know what to call it. President, Day-Date or Presidential?

The real name for this model is Day-Date and it was released in 1956 as a niche model. Rolex was suffering a drop in sales and the Day-Date was quietly released, not many expected it to put an end to stagnant sales. Fortunately for Rolex the Day-Date’s popularity exploded and sales rose significantly. The early models due to the complexity of the watch, with its automatic movement, additional day and date discs was a very large and had a bulbous case back. This differs quite dramatically from the slim profile we have become accustomed to today.

The nickname, President, did not come into existence until later when Rolex changed the bracelet of the Day-Date to a gold-linked bracelet with a concealed clasp the is called “the President wristband.” Rolex perhaps trying to expand recognition for this watch in the U.S, capitalized on the wristbands name and gave one to then President Dwight Eisenhower. Rolex succeeded perhaps a bit too well because here in the United States the nickname the President (Presidential would gain popularity as well) overtook its actual name. In Europe and abroad, asking for a Rolex President will get you quizzical stares since the Day-Dates’ nickname never grew as popular as it did here. Collateral Loan.

The Day-Date or President has undergone only slight changed over the years. In 1972 a hack feature was introduced which allowed the second hand to be stopped instantly. Also around this time the “Quickset” feature was introduced, this allowed the wearer to change the date by pulling the button out half way and turning it. A great improvement over the old method where the crown would have to be turned round and round in order to manipulate the date.  Besides these internal changes the President is still holds the classic beauty that originally made it a hit among consumers.

Why is Platinum So Expensive?

White gold (palladium gold alloy) ring with rh...
Image via Wikipedia

What makes platinum so expensive?

Platinum is a very popular metal for its advantages. Unlike white gold, which has be to rhodiumed every so often to keep its shine, platinum retains its natural, bright appearance and doesn’t have to be re-plated. Platinum is also a little harder than gold, making it less susceptible to wear and tear.

Besides the advantages of platinum, the metal is more expensive for economical reasons. Generally, platinum is a rarer metal and more difficult to mine than gold. This drives its price up. Likewise, platinum is used in much higher concentrations in jewelry than in gold. For instance, the platinum alloy used in jewelry consists of 85% to 90% platinum, whereas gold uses a maximum of 750 parts to a thousands of gold (75%) for 18kt jewelry, and even less for 14kt and 10kt.

Furthermore, platinum is a denser metal than gold, which means a grater density or heaviness contributes to a higher price (metal price is calculated based on gram weight).

Traditionally, platinum had been mixed with an alloy of gold, but more recently with other members of the platinum family such as palladium and iridium. This helps the metal retain its whiteness. This change in mixture has contributed to platinum’s increase in value since palladium and iridium tend to have a higher value.
