The 5-Carat Kazanjian Red Diamond- Buy Sell Diamond

Diamonds can come in many colors, the more popular colors at the moment are yellow and pink diamonds both of which are rare but not quite as rare as a red diamond. There is less then 20 red diamonds known to exist in the world today. One of the finest examples of a red diamond is the Kazanjian Red Diamond, a beautiful 5.05 carat red diamond that was discovered in the 1920s in Litchenburg, South Africa. This extraordinary 5.05-carat stone will be displayed this week at the American Museum of Natural History in the Morgan Memorial Hall of Gems. There are only two other natural red diamonds that are similar in size to the Kazanjian, the trilliant-cut 5.11-carat Moussaieff Red and the 5.03-carat De Young Red.

What makes the Kazanjian stand out against the other two red diamonds is its incredible history. When the Kazanjian was unearthed it was roughly 35 carats uncut. Sent to the firm of the Goudiv brothers for cut and polishing, the Kazanjian was at first thought to be not worth their time. For seven months the master cutter studied the diamond and began to carefully turn a 35 carat rock into a a 5.05 blood red gem.

As time went on the Kazanjian was trust into the middle of War World II, during which the Nazi’s discovered the gem hidden in the Netherlands and it was promptly confiscated and shipped to Germany. The Germans, who misidentified the diamond for a ruby, hid it amongst other gems in a salt mine in Bavaria. As the war was coming to a close the gems were abandoned and forgotten in the ensuing chaos. Later the gems were discovered and the rare red diamond was identified by the diamond merchant Louis Asscher. The Royal Asscher Diamond Company eventually bought the red diamond and then sold it to a privet collector in 1970, buy sell diamond.  For the next thirty-seven years the location of the Kaznjian would go unknown. In 2007 Douglas Kazanjian was surprised to find the red diamond come into his hands and he was able to piece together its amazing history.

Yellow Canary Diamonds- Buy Sell Diamond

Buy Sell Diamond

Colored diamonds tend to go through waves of popularity, one year pink diamonds may be in fashion and prices will go up and the next year brown diamonds will be the next must have item. Yellow diamonds or canary diamonds on the other hand have enjoyed a long lasting appeal with consumers. The incredibly rare canary diamonds range in color from dark to light yellow. Another factor that adds to their rarity is that canary diamonds tend to be found in natural environments and almost never found in common diamond mines. The most valuable and brightly colored diamonds have been found in South Africa.

All diamonds have natural impurities, the largest of which is nitrogen atoms. If these atoms are in pairs they have no affect on a diamonds color and you will have a regular white diamond. If these nitrogen atoms are in large even-numbered aggregates they impart a brown tint. In the case of yellow diamonds, the nitrogen atoms are dispersed throughout the crystal in isolated sites. This composition of nitrogen atoms is incredibly rare and only one in 10,000 diamond found in the world is a yellow diamond. These factors along with the general popularity of this type of colored diamond is the reason they are considered so valuable.

Like all diamonds, yellow diamonds are assigned value based on the four C’s: cut, carat weight, clarity and color. Canary diamonds are also graded on their evenness of their color, how much saturation of color is present and the undertones of the color. Faceting can make the color appear brighter and thus sparkle more which in turn highers the value of the diamond.

Raymond Lee Jewelers takes pride in the fact that we sell high quality colored diamonds at prices national jewelery stores can’t compete with. Make sure you are not paying more for a diamond just because of the name found on the shopping bag. We buy sell diamond.

Jewelry Shows

Jewelry shows can be a very interesting and entertaining outing for the family. If you are looking to see a huge selection of jewelry and or antique jewelry, antique and jewelry shows are a great place to visit. There are a few different antique shows, jewelry shows, watch shows and antique and jewelry shows we recommend. You can also visit our company (Raymond Lee Jewelers) at most of the shows we will be discussing. D.M.G. Media has a group of shows that are found in Florida, New York City and  Las Vegas.

The Original Miami Beach Antique Show is in Miami, Florida. This year the dates of the show are Feb. 3-7 , 2011. This is one of the largest and in my opinion best antique shows of the year. At this show you will find a huge collection of art, antiques, watches, diamonds and jewelry. This is really one of the best collections of dealers from in and outside of the country.

The Las Vegas Jewelry and Watch show is in Las Vegas June 3-6 2010. The show is in the MGM Grand Las Vegas and opens one day before JCK. This show is not open to the public and only open to the trade. This is a really fun show, lots of cool stuff. A lot of dealers come out to the Vegas show just because its in Vegas. There are many jewelry shows to visit all at the same time.  The New York Jewelry and Watch Show is in New York City in the Metropolitan Pavilion. This is Dmg’s smallest show by far, but really has a great collection of jewelry and antique dealers. Because this show is in Chelsea it has some great walk in traffic. This show is open to the public. It is a must see, especially if you live in the city.

Lastly, The Miami Beach Antique Jewelry and Watch Show is in October. This jewelry show is in the Miami Convention Center minutes from the famous South Beach. This is a much smaller show than Dmg’s other Miami show. It is a good show though. Because this show is smaller, dealers are motivated to sell. This show is mostly jewelry and some watches. The Palm Beach Show is an up and coming company with a great line up of shows and very knowledgable staff. The Palm Beach Show Group has 4 shows throughout the year. They include, The Baltimore Summer Antiques Show, Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Show, Ft. Lauderdale Art, Antique and Jewelry Show and Dallas International Art, Antique and Jewelry Show.

The Baltimore Summer Antique Show is one of the oldest shows in the country celebrating 30 years. This show is a really nice venue. Lots of interesting one of a kind items to see. The Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Show is February 18-22 2011. This is a great show with great merchandise. Mostly high end and unusual items at this show. Last year this was one of the busiest shows in South Florida. Ft. Lauderdale Show is brand new and this year is the first time it will be open. Should be a good one. We have not attended the Dallas show as of yet. Look here for more information on upcoming jewelry events. You can visit Raymond Lee Jewelers at most of the events discussed in this blog.
