Wild Watch of the Week Award!- watch sell

watch sell

Breitling Superavenger

As a Gemologist I ordinarily do not write about watches but sometimes something so insane comes into our store that I cant help but talk about it.  What I am talking about is the Super Avenger (model #
A13370)  from Breitling.   Breitling is known for watches that make a statement and this one is no exception.  In fact if Super Avengers were a group of people this particular version would be the leader of the pack.-watch sell

What makes this model so special is that it has been decked out to the point at which there is no mistaking it for anything but amazing.  First it has been treated with a PVD coating to make it pitch black.  Then it has been completely encrusted in black diamonds all around the case and bracelet.  To top it off the bezel also has larger black diamonds channel set all around the dial.  The total carat weight is 40ctw.  This piece is suited for the guy who has everything.  Someone who lives life and lives it well.  If you party like a rockstar and have an extreme sense of style then this watch is for you.  Feel free to call me, Richard, your South Florida Jewelry Guru, if you have any questions or you want me to send this bad boy out to you right away.

Tigers Eye: Fashionable for Fall- designer jewelry

With November about to start I really begin feeling a bit homesick for the days of growing up in the Northeast.  The changing leaves, hot apple cider, and tables set with sweet potatoes, squash and cranberries.  It is really a time for warm rich colors such as burnt umber, crimson and gold. Fashion loves to follow suit as fabrics get heavier and highly textural.  The gemstone world offers us the perfect compliment, Tigers Eye.

Designer Jewelry

Tigers eye is a semi-precious gem that is a member of the quartz family.  What makes Tigers eye different from other

quartz stones is that its not a transparent stone.  It composed of fibrous strands of silica.  When cut these stones are cut well they display a chatoyancy effect that gives it its “eye”.  Since it is reasonably available it can be cut and carved into larger sizes without worry about price though the finest quality can fetch hundreds of dollars per carat.

Many designers have really jumped on the tigers eye trend.  At the forefront is Roberto Coin.  He in fact has produced an entire collection featuring tigers eye called “Claire de Lune” .  This collection features a very large cut piece of tigers eye carved in a curved shape with diamonds around it set in a wide band of gold.  The piece is truly beautiful. This collection is available and a large discount at Raymond Lee Jewelers.  If you have any questions feel free to stop by and ask me or one of my friendly collegues at Raymond Lee Jewelers.- until next time this is Richard your South Florida Jewelry Guru.

Candy!Candy!Candy!- Zero calories! The kind you wear!-jewelry design

Semiprecious Gems- Jewelry Repair

At our store in Boca Raton we love candy.  In fact we have huge bowls of it all over the store for our clients to enjoy when they come in.  As I look at one of the bowls it hit me each flavor has a colored gem counterpart.  Instead of a bowl of candies flavored with Cherry, Green Apple, Grape, and Blue Raspberry imagine if they were bright red rubies, vivid green peridot, deep amethysts and brilliant blue topaz.  Each one of these stones has their own unique properties making them special.

This year with the economy in a state of uncertainty and the holidays fast approaching why not look to the colored gemstone world for your loved ones gifts.  The colors are intriguing to most everyone and since most everyone can afford them it is a good option for them.  Many designers are known for using color in their repertoire.  Amongst them David Yurman, John Hardy, Judith Ripka and Cartier are a few designers known for their use of color.  Of these designers David Yurman is known for his cable bracelets capped in colored stones.  We have a large selection of David Yurman jewelry at Raymond Lee Jewelers.  Come on in to see us.  Until next time stay fabulous-  Richard your South Florida Jewelry Guru!

O is for October and Opal!

Florida Jewelry

Florida Jewelry

With the month of October now underway today I am bringing you a brief lesson in Gemology.  Since the birthstones (that’s right there are two!) for October are Opal and Tourmaline.  While this article is focused mainly on Opal I will follow up with a second article about Tourmaline shortly.  Opals were revered by the ancient Romans as it was inspiring to them for its beauty was almost impossible to describe in words.  Romans simply called it “Opalus” a word that means “precious stone”.  One philosopher and scholar Pliny described opals as “they equal the deepest and richest colors of painters. Others simulate the flaming fire of burning sulphur…and even the bright blaze of burning oil”.  He was referring to Opals play of color ranging in colors as blue/green such as peacock feathers and vibrant reds and oranges like hot magma shooting out into the sky from a volcano.

One of the greatest things about opal is that the range in varieties and colors make opal such a versatile stone.   It ranges in color and qualities from the modestly priced white opals with a milky base color and soft play of color to intensely vivid black opals with color so intense it can look like it is on fire.    The patterns of the opal’s play of color can be categorized in one of three types; Pinfire, Flash and Harlequin.  Pinfire displays very small patches or “dots” of play of color, Flash displays large areas of play-of-color and Harlequin shows large, distinct angular patches of play-of-color with edges touching each other.

Opals are found all over the world.  White opals are the most common and are found in Ethiopia, Australia, and North and South America.  Fire opals known for having their intense orange and red colors are most widely found in Mexico.  Black opals are found almost exclusively in Australia.   One of the main mining areas in Australia is Coober Pedy.  The name comes from the aboriginal word “kupapiti” which literally means “white man in a hole”.  Because of the hot nature of the Australian outback miners there often live in underground housing to escape the heat.

With the current resurgence of victorian and vintage style jewelery designs, one cannot ignore the importance of opals in todays market.  Usually opal jewelry is offered at a commercial level with small white opals and low play of color but finer quality opals are beyond beautiful.  They have a rich glow to them that cannot be compared to by any other  gem.  At Raymond Lee Jewelers we have a wide selection of opal jewelry of fine quality.  Come in today to see our selection!.

RLJ in HongKong day 6!

Hey everyone!  Once again had an extremely busy day.  Non stop action at our booth (we must be doing something right!)  As the day progressed our watches and jewelry got alot of attention and quite a bit I am proud to say are finding a new home here in the orient.   Our selection of watches has been the main star of our show but that is not to say that our jewelry isnt anything to scoff at either.  Our selection of designer merchandise is dwindling as people are snapping up our great buys.  For now it is time for bed and rest up for another busy day.

Raymond Lee Jewelers in Hong Kong day 5: The big show day 1

While I would like to say that the first day of the show gave me some insights as to what the coming trends in the jewelry industry are, unfortunately I cannot.  We didn’t even get a chance to leave the booth even for a minute.  Our selection of watches and jewelry intrigued countless of attendees at the show.  It was non stop madness…..before we knew it, it was time to pack up and head home (er the hotel) for the night…….Totally wiped out and hitting the sack to be rested enough to do it all over again.
