Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute

Mad Men is one of those lucky shows that gets tremendous critical acclaim and has a dedicated following of viewers. Mad Men premiered in 2007 and is in its fourth season, in that time it has won 13 Emmys, 4 Golden Globes and consistently has extraordinary high ratings. Set in a the 1960’s and chronicling the lives of agents at a top ad agency, the show has become widely known for its visual style and wardrobe. The series is a veritable “who’s who” of luxury vintage watches. For example the lead character, Don Draper, wears a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classique throughout the series. This version like all Reverso features a 18 carat yellow-gold case that can be swiveled around to reveal either a personalized image, another dial, an engraving or a skeleton watch back.

This month Jaeger-LeCoultre invited Jon Hamm who plays Don Draper to introduce their latest model in the Reverso collection, the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin “Tribute to 1931.” Unlike the many watches that are on the market currently this beautiful new watch trades elaborate design for a classic look. This watch exudes simplicity and bucks the trend of having an extremely large case; the watch is slim, sleek and snugly rests against the wrist.

The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin comes in pink gold, features a black or white dial with the iconic dagger-shaped hands and baton-type hour markers. The movement is a 21 jewel mechanical manually-wound movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 822, which is crafted, assembled and decorated by hand.
The designers wanted to create a modern interpretation of the original Reverso while maintaining the Art Deco stylings that made the original so popular. They more than succeed in this endeavor.  This new watch is actually one of the slimmest Reverso ever created and instantly creates a luxurious look whither you’re wearing jeans or a suit.
