Watch Sell

Watch Sell

This year during Oprah’s annual Favorite Things segment, the legendary talk show host featured an exclusive watch from Philip Stein. If your not familiar with Oprah’s Favorite Things list, during this annual segment Oprah shares products with her audience that made an impression on her during the year. These items are typically great gift ideas for the holiday season but on occasion there are a few extravagant items, like this years 2011 Volkswagen Beetle. The biggest draw to this segment is the fact that the audience during the taping of this episode get all the items from the list for free! Thousands of dollars worth of free items tends to get peoples attention. Watch Sell.

This is the third time a Philip Stein watch has been featured on the show. This year the Philip Stein timepiece was created specifically to commemorate Oprah’s 25th anniversary on television. The specifically created watch has a
silver “O” on the dual dial and also features a “2” and “5”.

The Philip Stein watch comes in two forms: one with a fixed diamond bezel with a total carat weight of one carat and one with no diamonds. The retail value is approximately $700 with no diamonds and $2,300 with diamonds.

Princess Diana’s Ring Causes Replica Craze!- Florida Diamond

Florida Diamond

Florida Diamond

On November 16th Prince William proposed to his long time girlfriend Kate Middleton with his late mother’s engagement ring. This beautiful ring was given to Princess Diana by Prince Charles and features brilliant18 ct. blue sapphire center stone surrounded by colorless  diamond accents in platinum. Princess Diana personally choose this ring in 1981 and paid 30,000 pounds. Today it is estimated that this historic ring is worth £250,000 or about $399, 350. This proposal has splashed across headlines around the world. This media frenzy has made everything related to Princess Dia sky-rocket back into popularity.

JCK Magazine is reporting that major jewelers across the world are seeing a surge in Princess Dia inspired replicas. Natural Sapphire Company saw such a heavy demand that their website crashed shortly after Prince William’s announcement. Natural Sapphire Co. is selling their replicas as low as $1,000 and as high as $150,000.  This is great news for an industry that had recently seen a decline in sales and interest in large engagement rings. Florida diamond.

This thirst for blue sapphire and diamond rings has crossed the pond as well. Jewelers in New York have been bombarded with requests and are rushing to meet this new demand. I can see why Princess Diana’s ring is so popular, the ring has a very traditional and conservative style while still maintaining a luxurious look.

Luxury Watch Production Slumps: Preowned Luxury Watches

preowned luxury watches

Preowned Luxury Watches

According to the latest edition of “Watch Time” magazine the production of preowned luxury watches has taken a dive.  They are basing this estimation on the amount of watches submitted for COSC.  (Watch movements that pass the rigorous test of the COSC receive a officially certified chronometer movement.)

Rolex, Breitling, and Omega are three of the biggest luxury Swiss watch companies and are also the three biggest who send their movements to COSC (accounting for 78% of all chronometers).  In 2009 the total for all companies submitting their watches to COSC dropped 27.4% to 1,160,631.  According to COSC, that is the lowest total since 2004.

It is obvious that this decline is due to the recent world recession.  Less people are buying preowned luxury watches during tough times.  However, I predict that next year production will increase.  It seems most of the world is recovering and people are more willing to spend their money.  Hopefully we will look back at 2010 and say the trend turned upwards.

Panerai Serial Numbers: Preowned Luxury Watches

Preowned Luxury Watches

Preowned Luxury Watches

In the world of preowned luxury watches knowing the year of production is very important.  the year of the watch can have a big impact on its value.  Rolex, for example, has had a complicated serial number dating system dating back until the 40’s.  Depending on the first number or letter you can estimate the year of production.

I was answering questions on my eBay page today and a potential client asked me what year the Panerai watch I had for sale was.  I told them I did not know because I had no idea that Panerai had a similar dating system to Rolex.  On the back of each watch is a letter followed by a set of numbers.  That first letter corresponds to a year.

Here is a list of Panerai serial numbers with its corresponding year:

J: 2007
I: 2006
H: 2005
G: 2004
F: 2003
E: 2002
D: 2001
C: 2000
B: 1999
A: 1998
No Letter: 1997

Usually following the year indicator is a “number/number”.  The first number represents the number of your watch and the second number represents how many of that model they made.  For example, J 200/500 means your watch was the 200th made out of 500 in 2007.

Orange Diamonds!- Sell Jewelry

Sell Jewelry

Sell Jewelry

In the past I have blogged about the different natural colored diamonds that are both extremely rare and valuable: red diamonds, pink diamonds and yellow canary diamonds! I have yet to cover the extraordinary and equally rare orange diamond.  Orange diamonds occur naturally by the presence of nitrogen and carbon lattice. All orange colored diamonds with a high intensity grade (Fancy Intense Orange and Fancy Vivid Orange) are extremely rare as the majority of orange diamonds have a yellow, pink or brown hue. Orange diamonds are so rare that most jewelers will likely never see one in person or own one. I for one have seen many diamonds come through Raymond Lee Jewelers but I have unfortunately never seen a orange diamond; out of all the colored diamonds, to me the orange is the most beautiful. To give you an example of how rare orange diamonds are out of the 100 largest diamonds in the world only one is orange. Sell Jewelry.

The most famous orange diamond is the Fancy Vivid Orange Pumpkin Diamond mined in Central Africa Republic and then imported into South Africa. The Pumpkin Diamond measured 5.54 carats and is light colored and very intense. It is currently valued at $3 million and was eventually purchased by Harry Winston who set it in a ring between two white diamonds. It was notably worn by Halle Berry for the 2002 Oscars when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball.

In October a 7.5 carat orange diamond was found in South Africa’s Northwest Province. What makes this orange diamond even more spectacular is the fact that it has flawless potential which raises its value considerably. The current owner is Namakwa Diamonds which has mining operations in Lesotho, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia. Raymond Lee Jewelers may not have any orange diamonds at the moment but we do have fancy yellow, beautiful white and even a watch studded with black diamonds!

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Openworked- Jewelry Appraisal

Jewelry Appraisal

Jewelry Appraisal

In the past we have blogged about the beautifully industrial looking Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which is one of Audemars’ most popular timepieces. Audemars hopes to attract a new type of clientele with their re-envisioning of the popular Royal Oak. The newest edition to the collection has a skeletonised dial and case back but retains the  sleek and contemporary lines of the original Royal Oak. These new watches have had their movements upgraded from the Calibre 3120 to the self-winding Calibre 3129. The Calibre 3129 movement consists of many intricate moving parts that when seen in motion through the transparent dial create a magnificent exhibition. Jewelry appraisal.

This exciting new watch features satin-brushing on the mainplate and bridges and intense colors that are achieved through hand-crafted beveling. Their are only a few color options though, colors range from gray to anthracite (a slightly darker shade of gray). This lack of colors was intentional, as the various shades of gray offer a beautiful contrast to the brass gear trains and the 22kt gold oscillating weight seen through the dial. The case is an impressive 39 mm in diameter and makes quite the presence.

Audemars is offering the Royal Oak Openworked in a steel case with a steel bracelet or a 18kt pink gold case on an alligator leather strap. Both versions are incredibly fascinating pieces and a great addition to any  watch collection.

Sports Watch Weekly Giveaway: Week 10 Preview

Sports Watch Weekly Giveaway

Sports Watch Weekly Giveaway

Week 10 in the NFL marks the first week this season for Thursday Night Football Games.  For those participating in the Sports Watch Weekly Giveaway this means you have to at least have your first pick in by Thursday.  A lot of people did not realize it this week and missed out on an opportunity for a point.  As more and more people join it is imperative to accumulate as many points as possible.

If you were one of the few to realize there was football on last night you watched a great game.  A last second touchdown by Baltimore to go ahead by one was quickly forgotten when Roddy White and the Atlanta Falcons scored the winning touchdown with 20 seconds left.  The game was mostly dominated by Atlanta up until the 4th quarter when Baltimore finally found some passing lanes.  Overall it was a good game with a great ending.

While last night’s game was the best match up of the week there are still some games to watch Sunday and Monday.  In my opinion the other two games that will be just as exciting are both the Sunday night game and the Monday night game.  On Sunday night the Patriots travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.  And on Monday night the surprising Eagles are visiting the nation’s capital to play the Redskins.  Both games feature two teams who have been long time rivals.

Steelers vs Patriots:
This game is featuring two teams who have been the class of the AFC for the last ten years or so.  From 2000-2009 they have combined to win half of the Super Bowls played and participated in 6 out of the 10.  Whenever these two meet up you can expect a great game.  The similarities continue as they are both first in their divisions boasting a 6-2 record.  The Patriots have had four quality wins over the Dolphins, San Diego, Baltimore, and Minnesota but just got blown out by the dreadful Cleveland Browns.  The Steelers have been playing great defense and started the season 3-1 without their Super Bowl winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.  The reason I think the Patriots looked so bad last week against the Browns is because they were looking ahead to this weeks game.  They were 6-1 and could afford to lose at Cleveland in order to prepare for this heated rivalry game.  The Patriots will bounce back this week after a devastating loss and beat the Steelers.

Redskins vs Eagles:
Year after year the NFC East proves to be the hardest division in the NFL to win.  All four teams usually have high aspirations even before the season starts.  Going 9-7 in the NFC East is more like 10-6 or 11-5 in other divisions.  This year the Eagles are second in the division with an impressive 5-3 record.  Michael Vick has been carving up defenses and looks like he has provided a spark to their offense.  Meanwhile, last year’s last place team, the Redskins, have been a nice surprise.  They are a 4-4 team after coming off one of their worst seasons ever.  They have been playing everyone tough and have been in just about every game until the end.  The addition of head coach Mike Shanahan has given this team some discipline and it has translated to wins on the football field.  While the Redskins have been playing good football I think the Eagles’ Michael Vick will be too much to handle.  Between his running and improved aerial attack the Eagles should win this one in Washington.

Good luck everyone this week and remember to tell your friends about the Sports Watch Weekly Giveaway.
